I left my nappies in the bucket for a week (maybe more) and when I went to wash them some of the inserts have mould spots on them :o I know I should of washed them a LOT sooner but I just didn't get around to it and I actually forgot about them (I blame sleep deprivation!).
Is there anything I can do to get rid of the mould? Or should I just buy a new set of inserts? They are itti bitti d'lish and I have already washed them and hung them in the sun but the mould is still there....
If theres no way of getting rid of the mould, should I stop using them until I can replace the inserts?

Hmm have you tried using Eucalyptus oil or Tea Tree Oil? :o
Wait until there are some more suggestions though... and find one you think will work.
Don't let them dry yet, or the stains will be stuck! :o
I had some pocket inserts go mildew spotty on me too. (slack, didn't wash them quick enough)
I washed and dried them, then decided that I couldn't leave black spots on my inserts. SO....
I gave them an overnight soak in hot water and strong napisan. A good wash again and Hung them on the line for a few days in the sun...and I think they got rained on too.
There's still a few pale spots on them but they look OK and still work just fine.
Being pockets I don't have to look at them anyway so if they are a little bit stained, so long as I know they're clean I'm happy.

Try emailing Itti Bitti - they are usually quite helpful. They might have some recommendations.
My thoughts are that if you have washed them and hung them in the sun and the stains are still there then even if they don't come out they are not going to do any harm and it should be fine to use them.
It may be that they will fade with use and time.
Goodluck.

try searching this forum. Babymaker or MrsL had the same problem with mould on her greenkids.....

Thanks for your replies. I have them soaking at the moment with nappisan... I know its not recommended with mcn's but I've got nothing to lose I guess :fingerscrossed:
If no luck I will email itti bitti and see what they suggest.

My suggestion is vinegar. Add it to your wash without detergent for a few cycles.
Then do a normal wash. Should come out.

I think the no soaking applies more to the covers/pockets etc rather than the inserts tbh :)

Goodluck. I'll be interested to hear how you get on and if the marks come out - just in case it happens to our nappies!
Hi.
Just a thought - Mould is a bacteria and will continue to grow, When mould is left in houses etc; it will grow and can make people really sick - I personally would be purchasing new bits and pieces but that is just me. Perhaps you could research into how mould grows and if it would be harmful to your baby or not if it is left or even if you do manage to get the "Stains" out. Then again that is time comsuming... lol.
Just be careful with that kind of thing, thats all.

Heat, Sun, Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil are all great mould killers.
They actually kill the spores, not just "wash" them.
