hello,

cutting a long story short, i was not able to breastfeed my daughter and would like to for the second...i had a lot of problems with oversupply and constant engorgement as well as sore nipples and mastitis and was very under-prepared for it all. would like to prepare myself better in advance for next time - am looking for how to go about this other than get the right products eg pillows, breast shells etc - any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

also am looking for a good comprehensive book about breastfeeding - any recommendations?

thanks in advance!

My breastfeeding bible is Sheila Kitzinger's book called BREASTFEEDING. I would highly recommend it as a 'book to have'!

I would recommend anything by Sue Cox. She wrote "Breastfeeding...naturally" amongst others. You can find them in your public library or purchase them online via the ABA website. She really has a wealth of information.:)

I have the ABA one too and it's really good - has lots of info about the (many  ) different probs you can have. Well worth the $$

I'm reading "Breast is Best" by Dr Penny Stanway. It's full of tips and explains how bf works. Also the ABA website is full of good info. I used a boomerang pillow for the first few weeks till we got the hang of it. Best of luck.

I know AVENT have a breastfeeding guide DVD available.. I'm not 100% but i think i recall a fellow bubhubber saying they recieved a free one in the post after they emailed the company via the website (see freebies section)

I use Sue Cox books and videos, also LLL "womanly art of Breastfeeding" and a little orange book (out of print now I think?) "Bestfeeding" very simplistic but gets the whole postition and attachment idea accross easily.

Also on the preparation side I think its valuable to go to ABA group meet the women and talk over your problems last time so you can find answers and understand how to approach things next time. A good LC is a must also especially when you need extra encouragement or help.

Determination plays a big part;)
