Do all childcare centres (that are not an ABC) have a year or more waiting list time? It's quite bewildering really, having to put down on a waiting list a baby that isn't even born yet.:(

I guess it depends where you live..

When i was in tamworth i found it extremely difficult to find care for ds1... his name was on a few lists for months :o

I have no problems finding care where i am now....very lucky!!

But i can empathise with you.... it is very frustrating :(

Sydney's really a joke for childcare. I was willing to go back to work but because of childcare restrictions it was virtually impossible. Yet the NSW government have just imported over 1000 RN's from the UK??? How about looking after those of us who are already here with children and providing some on the job quality childcare!!!

hi
Yes, childcare waiting lists can be that bad. It depends on the centre but you will find most of the good ones in sydney have a long list ( especially for under two year olds). I run a homebased childcare service in sydney and I tell parents to put their name down as soon as they find out they are pregnant but that still doesn't mean they will get the position when they want it. So gooooood luck finding a good position :)

I was wondering about home based care. Any recommendations?

I have my unborn son on a waiting list for a childcare centre that hasn't finished been built yet, for when he turns two. I rang as soon as the sign on the fence went up. Its just down the road from our house.

Sorry i don't have any suggestion for homebased childcare in your area. All i can suggest is looking on tha website www.datadiction.com.au and do a search. You could also contact your local council.

The biggest things you need to be aware of when loooking into homebased care are:

-Carers experience
-Qualifications (Do not need to have any by law but you may find some do)
-Who they are licenced with? (DOCS or family day care association- either is fine as long as they are licenced by either one of these)
-the age of the other children in care
-how long they are planning to be a homebased carer for?
-Personality of carer
-Safety of house

Good luck!:) if you want anymore tips let me know.

:fingerscrossed: I am starting to ring around now for CC spots to put my name down for July 2007. I am nearly 8w pregnant.....

Some places do have massive weighting lists so I thought I might as well start looking around now!!

Hopefully I will find a spot

The centre I work at has a two year (Sometimes longer wait list) The waiting list can be shorter for children of preschool age as its usually the nusery that is in high demand.

Parents put their unborn bubs names down all the time some as early as 4 weeks pregnant etc
I had a lady come in the other day wanting an info. pack and she and her hubby were just thinking about ttc:eek: getting in really early lol

Coz our centre is a work based facility its very hard to get into and we have a strict 5 point priority list.

I am very thankful I got my son in :smiliedance: and siblings get priority placement so any other children I have will more than likely get a place:D

Hi guys,

We're up in Brisbane but it's the same with waiting lists here. I put my sons name down when I was 12 weeks pregnant (before I even knew that he was a him) and we've been told now that he won't get into the nursery there until October - AND we're only looking for one day per week!!!

My biggest mistake was putting his name down at one place thinking that I would be fine. They never alluded to the fact that he wouldn't be able to get in when I needed to go back to work only when it came to the crunch.

I've got him into another daycare centre now but that's through a friend who's daughter moved out of the nursery and into the toddler room and the day that I needed became free.

So I would recommend putting your name down at as many daycare centres as possible and also let friends with little ones know when you're planning to head back to work so that they can put their feelers out too in their daycare centres.

My little man is off to his first day at daycare tomorrow!!! I'm freaking out but so excited too :( I don't start work until next Friday so thought I'd put him in for a day first so if there are any problems then I can go and get him with no worry.

Good luck with finding a spot and for the rest of your pregnancy!!! :)
