Hi, I'd like to start trying for baby number 2 and although I was overweight with my ds, I put on about 30kg first time and am 13kg heavier than when I first fell pregnant with ds. I've been trying to lose it but no success yet. I do eat healthy and try and exercise (walking regularly) but have put off trying for number 2 because of my weight.
So I'd just like to ask if anyone has had a successful pregnancy while being very overweight? I had really bad fluid from about 5 months with ds then got carpel tunnel at about 38 weeks. Did anyone who had fluid and/or carpel tunnel first time get it second time too?
Sorry, a whole mix of questions here, hope I make sense. Looking forward to your answers. :)

I can sympathise with you....I am now preggers with 3rd child an overweight.
I was 103 kgs, when I fell with 1st one - gained about 20kgs....But lost it all breastfeeding.
With the second, I was 97kgs, when I fell...but gained 30kgs!!!Lost 10kgs by giving Birth!!!!
This time I started 104kgs and have gained 14kgs so far (I am now 26weeks)....
All I can say is that it is not an ideallic situation, it is especially just uncomfortable, but I have never had any other health issues while pregnant. I figure I will lose it when the bub is born...what else can you do?
Good luck
I too can sympathise with the issue of weight and having a baby. I'm very overweight (30kg+) yet this never affected my fertility thank goodness.
I averaged about 12-14kg weight gain with most of my pregnancies (#3 I actually lost 10kg DURING the pregnancy for absolutely no reason), and have always tried in between pregnancies to lose weight without much luck. My first pregnancy I was actually induced 2 weeks early due to severe swelling and it was incredibly uncomfortable. Now onto baby number 5 and being at my heaviest yet, I'm still glad to be doing it rather than waiting until I was down to my ideal weight - which could have taken years and years.
Maybe it'd be a good idea to have a chat to your Dr about the risks and chances of the swelling & CT returning? Then weigh up the pro's and con's?
Wishing you luck in your decision :goodvibes:
With my 4 bubs the first 2 i was about 15 kg overweight and with the last 2 been at my goal weight of 72 kg when found out im pregnant...i put on about 30 kg with the first 2 and around 20kg with the last 2 but i carried fluid no matter what, this last time i have carried more fluid and had more complications than the first 3, so being at your ideal weight does not always stop fluid retention, it is better for your overall health but age also is a factor and as long as you are eating good and doing some exercise would be all helping!
Goodluck:yelclap:

How good does that sound!?!? :smiliedance: Seriously now, as long as my health and the babies is not jeopardised, that's the main thing.
I put on most of my weight in my first trimester when I had "morning" aka 24/7 morning sickness (which funnily enough is the weight I am struggling to lose, lost all the rest) and the only thing that slightly helped was eating...so I did that 24/7  It was all mostly healthy but calories are calories at the end of the day.
Thanks soooo much for the replies, you've really boosted my confidence and helped me decide I'm ready to try now and not wait. Meantime I'll keep walking and trying to lose it and see what happens. Thanks again, really appreciate it. :)
lol sounds good in theory, I looked and felt great afterwards, but it was far more stress than it was worth. OB wasn't overly worried though as I am overweight anyway.
Oh and DD#3 made up for it by giving me the worst, most painful posterior labour, so it was a strange trade off!!
Good luck with it all! :)
For those of you who haven't already you should join the Overweight and Pregnant, New Thread http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=196661 in the Pregnancy and Birth General Chat.
There are quite a few overweight mum's and mum's to be in this thread, supporting each other through the issues that we go through being pregnant and overweight.
I am currently 39 weeks pregnant with my first and haven't had morning sickness, cravings, food aversions, strep b, gestational diabetes or any pregnancy complications. So I would say go for it!
