this is frustrating for me as i like to sleep topless so ruby can self attach hence me waking less (yes i know oh so selfish :p:rolleyes:)

but im still leaking it dribbles around midnight onwards. i obviously have to sleep on a terry towling square or something so i dont change the sheets.. i would have thought by now. since i have stoped leaking during the day that my boobs would be ok at night.

Ruby is 9.5months old.

Does anyone else only leak at night? and if so when did it stop?

I leaked for months after I weaned DD(although I never noticed it at night).

I would be thinking that it's when you're relaxed? While it's annoying, at least you know your milk is in good supply(sorry, lame attempt to point out the positive:o).

I still leak now. DD3 is 17 mths old and the leaking is the same as when she was born.

So, mine never stopped...

It's actually because the prolactin levels in your body (the hormone that helps you produce milk) peak at around 1am. That's why the overnight feeds are so vital, particularly in the early days - it's like the baby putting in their 'order' for the next day, so to speak.

With DD, I was able to stop wearing breastpads at night at around 11 months or so - but she was only having 3 feeds a day at that stage.

DS is 8 months old and still feeds like a newborn...ie 8 feeds a day at least, with 2 - 3 of them being overnight. There's no way I could go without breastpads overnight, I would end up in a sopping mess. TBH, I don't find I have to wake up very much to unclip a bra and attach him...and I have to wake up a little to roll over and attach him to the other side anyway....so....it doesn't bother me. If I were you I'd buy something like a Bond's Bumps singlet, or a Lovable maternity bra. I find the drop cup styles on both of these sort of bras very convenient, especially for overnight feeds.

I leak at night too because I like having my nipple exposed for easy attatchment for dd, she's only 15 weeks old. Poor little princess gets covered in milk too & the worse thing is she's got heaps of hair.
So sorry can't offer any advice, just this :hugs:

Yep, happens to me, my bub is 10.5 months old. I sleep on a terry flat or a soft towel. My own milk gives me a rash though so it is not a good thing....think i might look into the singlets a PP mentioned.

That would only make the problem worse, in any case :) Breast milk is made on a supply & demand principle - if you remove more milk from your breasts, they will make more to replace what was removed. Alternatively, if you have a slight (or even quite large) oversupply, if you leave it alone and don't remove the milk, after a time your breasts will get the message that the milk isn't needed at that time, and stop producing so much.

Expressing would just slow down your breasts' adjustment to the demand :)
