View Full Version : Where are all the nice boys clothes?
I went out today all ready to kit both my children out for the next few months. I managed to find the nicest outfits for my month old DD but nothing for my toddler DS. They have all types of skater type t shirts for bigger boys and very cute baby boys stuff but nothing in between. I've been to Kmart, Best and Less, Pumpkin Patch, Esprit and every shop in the DFO.....anyone got any ideas? I am just after nice long sleeve boys shirts, nothing fancy just regular clothes. He's only just in a size one.
I think Myers has a great range of boys clothes!
Thanks Carls forgot about Myer, must try DJ's too.

Hi HL!!
I bought all CJ's winter shirts (size 1 aswell) from K Mart & Target. They are really cute.
Sux when you go shopping & cant find anything hey! :banghead:
Ooo thanks Becca, forgot about Target too.:o
I have also found that a lot of the t shirts you get are a bit short. I get a lot of clothes from Europe (DH is German), and they just seem to have a better length. Is it just me that has found that?

Yes. Though I have found that the size 1 in the toddler section at Target is better.
Mind you Connor is short...  I have bought a few size 2 shirts & am just rolling the sleeves under..... :o
I know what you mean. I brought a size 2 jumper for Oliver at the end of winter last year (beautiful jumper, knitted wool reduced from $40 to $14), thinking it will fit him this winter. Silly me, he's only just in a size one now.

I've found it's pretty hard to get what i'm looking for, there is so much variety for little girls and not alot for boys.
I like Target but you have to get in early as I find alot of their stuff sells out and I also like Big W, they have some cute boys stuff too.

I just bought Ry a few shirts from Big W and Target. Although you need to get used to the fact that there are only two types available. Stupid slogan or the look of a long T-shirt underneath a short sleeved one IYKWIM.

Ive found Target to be better than Kmart! Kmart have up to size 2 then start at size 7. They have a few sizes in between but not alot!
Hey, if all else fails, try ebay, i have found HEAPS of great stuff in all sizes (a lot that are too big for my ds who is only 000) i have bought a few things from there for when he gets bigger :D
i love going to big w, they have nice clothes with not alot of fussy things on them and they are inexpensive but not cheaply made. i also love kmart....
ebay is also a good option. and keep an eye out on parent forums such as these when people are selling their kids clothes that they have grown out of and want to get rid of.
Thanks everyone. I went to Trade Secret this morning and they had a fantastic range of long sleeve boys t-shirts and really cheap. I know what you mean about the slogans K, I saw one this morning that had 'Trouble' written all over it.

I had trouble with this recently when I was shopping for a friend's boy! Every item of clothing available seemed to have either skulls and/or dreadful slogans on it. What is with that? Why can't boys look like sweet little boys, not wannabe bad-boy gangsters?
I ended up buying a couple of Bonds t-shirts from their Winter range. Not too expensive, and thankfully bereft of slogans....
It's terrible Nickster. Little girls are soooo much easier and more fun to shop for!:D
I really like Best and Less, Myer and Pumpkin Patch even DJs sometimes have nice clothes for boys. Fortunately because he is at school he doesn't need as many casual clothes anymore. This might be a bit of a sidetrack but I am so over the skull and camoflauge theme for boys clothes, it is just everywhere:rolleyes:

I have 2 boys in size 1-2 and 2-3, i have found that both best and less and Target has the better range of boys clothes but where we live we dont have shops like Myers or anything.

I have all of those because its true !
Lol :o
I have "Captain Chaos", "Im Trouble" & there are heaps more i want including "Sleep, Milk & Rock 'n' Roll", "I Must Not Chase The Girls" & "Hey Dont Blame Me I Couldnt Vote For Him !!!" LOL !!!!!
But thats also because Boof is such a big boy he looks stupid in the really nice boys stuff which is rather depressing at times so i stick with what suits him.
I found great stuff at Kmart just as the new season stuff came in but they have nothing now but Big W & Target are ok though.
It is true that it is so easy to find girls clothes
Just check the clearance racks-mostly pink
I have made a hobby of finding the right clothes for my boys
My girl is far too easy to buy for.
I am very fussy but have still over bought my kids!
I think the best boys stuff is Woof! (by Minihaha)
But for play clothes I like Myer eg.OPi is ok
Harris Scarfe has Bonds in bigger sizes not just for bubs
Hoppers is ok too.
Look at Op shops for jeans, etc
Target and Myer

i find that with my son too. DP's family keep buying for RJ those little baby clothes. u know baby blue rompers and cute stuff which dont really suit him as he is a big boy so i use them as nightwear. RJ gets around in little denim jeans and some slogan shirts and stuff because i've found it suits him better being the big boy that he is.

That's so funny Ally, those just don't suit my DS what so ever. He did have one that said, "Cheeky, naughty, funny", but that's about it. The "big boy" looking stuff doesn't suit him either. I must have a dodgy Kmart because they had heaps of every size besides size one. Just my luck.
I'm not sure if anyone has suggested it but I love the stuff in Cotton On Kids. Some of it is quite reasonably priced and looks like their grown up clothes. I hope that we have a boy one day so I can daddy & son dress him in the same clothes as hubby. They are identical pieces!! Soooo cute!!
:smiliedance:
Ally, those slogan shirts are great!!!! where did u find them? i love the vote one:thumbsup:

sw33tn3ss - Yeah Boof hasnt worn any bubby stuff since 6mths of age unless it was at home or for sleep funny how things look silly on big boys hey you never think about that sort of stuff when your pg you just assume you can buy all the "cute" stuff etc & they will wear it !
Happy Lady - We obviously have the opposite problem ! Im standing looking at all the sweet little boy stuff thinking " darn i wish he could wear that etc " yet your wanting that stuff lol ! Have you got someone who could knit some nice jumpers etc for O ? Cause there are some great pale blue colours around atm that i would love to use for Boof but instead have gone for navy etc & my mum is knitting me up some stuff.
faery - I actually found a great place on ebay the other day called Bondi Top Sellers they have a whole heap of different types including long & short sleeve as well as bibs ! But i usually find mine in Big W or Kmart the ones i spoke of i got from Big W in long sleeves same as last year when i got " World's No 1 Dribbler " & " Hug Me At Your Own Risk " but during summer Boof had " Its All About Me ", "If Mum Says No Ask Dad ", " Whatever " & " But Why ? " which were all short sleeves.

I also buy mostly at Target, Big W and K-Mart. Harris Scarfe is good if you have one. I also pop into Pumpkin Patch. When there are specials you might find a really good clothing.
I agree that it is much harder to find nice clothes for boy. And I personally regret that it seems to be a tendency to design children's clothing exacly as for adult's, just smaller size. No matter what the current fashion is children love bright colours. Don't rob them from their chaildhood. And why boys only have to wear navy, beige, khaki, or grey? Who was the idiot that designed boys PJ and socks with scull and bones? Most of us agree that weapon toys are bad then why so many boys clothing items have camouflage pattern on it? Even my DS#1, when he was just 4 y.o. asked at Big W when I was trying to find PJs for him:"Why they are so nice for the girls and such yuck for the boys?" I wish their Sales manager was there at that moment...

It's easy to buy girls clothes...as long as you like pink
If you want anything other than pink forget it.
As for boys clothes - we just found out we're having a boy so i'm only just starting to take notice of boys clothes and there is not much variety out there.....blue, grey and khaki.....where are the bright things?
Plenty of time for the drab stuff when they're sulky teenagers

I agree with it being hard to find nice boys clothes. I have also been looking lately for winter clothes and find that at most stores there is only a very small section for boys 1-3 sizes.
However i did find some nice long sleeved shirts at best and less although there werent much variety.
i also dont mind Target for boys clothes. I have 2 boys and the variety and range is quite different to the girls clothes which is normally 75% of the kids section.

Another place to get nice boys clothes is JK clothing. You can buy it online at: jkonline.com.au
I like it because not everyone else is wearing it. Prices are reasonable as well.
Rebecca:wave:
I am a bit surprised as i think my two boys have the best wardrobes out there !!
I shop mainly at Target, Myer, Dj's, Best n' Less and Big W
I also LOVE JK kids and Cotton on kids
Sometimes Kmart
My boys have lots of colour i their wardrobe too....
I actually prefer boys stuff as you can find clothes in blue, red, grey, green, khaki, orange, teal, aqua, white, yellow, burgandy, etc etc...even pink these days!!
Whenever i shop for girls it seems you can get pink or purple with maybe some aqua! boooorrring .....
Maybe its because i live so close to the fashion capital.....
I just clicked too that you said your DS was in size 1 !!
wow how cute :D
Samuel i am now buying a size 3 for !! and Ethan is between an 0 and a 1 !!
I have big boofers :o

I've just discovered 'Next' brand in the U.K. (I just lurve the internet!) and they have the most gorgeous boys' clothes.
Anyway, I picked out a few things and then went to pay...uh-oh!!!! they don't deliver outside the U.K!!! That's just ridiculous...I've got a perfectly good credit card sitting here waiting to be used!
Here's their website in case anyone has any relatives/friends over there who could send it on...

Perish the thought!!!
I'd never heard of Next...spending too much time on the Gymboree site I 'spose!!
*Seriously though, DH was quietly relieved when he heard me stomp out of the 'puter room muttering, 'well what's the bloody point of having a website if you're not going to send internationally...it's only Australia, you guys managed to find us when you were sending all of your thieves here, now you can't even send some jeans!'...he'll be spitting chips if I take you up your 'niceness'!!!lol

I guess I'm lucky, I've got Baby Gap, Next and Mothercare all right beside me here in Ireland :) Only problem is we end up spending a fortune there on clothes for the kids :) If theres anything you really want I can post it if you pay me first, not that anyones likely to trust an Irish Dad !
Oh yes ID, I have a lovely friend who was in Japan who sent me a couple of absolutely gorgeous Baby Gap things for my DD....soooo cute.:D
Mamaduke, you crack me up.
