im moving to banyo in about 3 weeks time for uni, i have got a house with 3 other girls a few streets away from the uni, so i wont be needing transport to uni, but wondering whats the closest shopping centres etc? closest place to do a grocery shop? as i wont have a car so im hoping theres one not too far away or ill have to do a few small shops and bring it home on the bus.
hows the transport?

hi, are you talking Banyo, Brisbane? If you are, I cant think of where the Uni, is unless you are talking about the Catholic Uni, and that is not just a few streets from Banyo. I used to live in Brisbane, but I might be out of touch with the area now. I hope someone else can help you more, but I might be able to give you a few ideas. Toombul is the closest major shopping centre, but there is also Chermside. I think Toombul would be on a direct bus route. Ask me some more questions if I am helpful.

Hi.. Just thought, not sure how old this thread is ;) (just checked and it was posted yesterday. Whew! I'm guilty of getting bored at night and bumping up heaps of old threads).
Banyo is indeed home to ACU. It's very suburban and on the outskirts to boot, though not more than 20 minutes from the city on the train. There are some local shops in the area, but I think the nearest big supermarkets would be at Toombul, or the new Nundah Village shops. Both of these are on the train line.
Regarding part time jobs, your best bet would be Toombul or Nundah (there are a few cafes in Nundah). Again because they are on the train line they are easy to get to. I just don't rate buses in Brisbane, in the suburbs. They seem so.. hapharzardly scheduled and routed.
My husband also tells me there is Coles in Banyo....
Good luck and have fun at uni!

 thanks littlemissmoi i always write in old threads too woops:)
yes i drove around the area yesterday and found the little group of banyo shops which would be good for little stuff etc.
but was told that toombul? and chermside were the cloest shops but the bus went to toombul then to chermside? so toombul would be closer im guessing. also havent heard of nundah shops so will have to check that out:)
im just stressing about groceries on a long bus trip.
oh and thanks for the info on transport, great haha, must say transport isnt so great on the sunshine coast where i am now anyway, so cant beat it:laughing:. and yes ill start looking at those places for jobs, eventually.

hi ezzza, get out the local phone book ( Map pages ) or the telstra one, and check out the area that way. You will see where things are in relation to where you are, and get a better picture of the train line and the many bus routes. I think you will find the train better, and maybe buy yourself one of the little shopping trolley thingy, for the groceries, much easier then arms full carrying the green shopping bags. good luck, Marie.
