Whats the weirdest thing you have done to bring on labour? And did it work?

Shocking but true I sterilised a fork and used the handle to gently stretch around up there:laughing:, but the vey next morning I was in labour so i guess it worked, now im not suggesting you do this becasue im not sure if it is even safe to do so was just something I did in my time of impatienence (is that a word )

A fork? You must have been desperate! (I would not suggest this method though:laughing:)

I tried sex- that sucked- I was fat, it was hot (the weather) and I just was not that into it at all.

I tried a S and S- failed.

Curry- though that was never going to work, as I dont like curry.

In absolute frustration I took to the lawns with the mower. Not only did I mow our lawns but those of our neighbours 3 houses either side.

I finished that lawns at about 6 pm and I had her at 5.30 am the next day after a 24 minute labor.

I didn't try any 'self-induction' methods with the other three pregnancies- they were all a few days early.

hi,
I was overdue a week & i tried alot of things.. Going for a bike ride on the bumpiest road i could find set off braxton hicks early next morning( i tried this a few times with BH following)!! Blowing up balloons. I would reccommend anything bumpy that you wouldn't normally do:)

Gosh, I've never heard of the fork method before. Sounds down right scary to me.
First bub, i was induced two weeks early.
Second bub decided to come two weeks early and started contractions whilst i was on my daily brisk long walk (pushing a pram and bub weighing around 20-25kg). I also starting drinking raspberry leaf tea at about 36 weeks and ate lots of spicy food (as usual).
Some bubs are just too comfortable in there and aren't ready to face the world no matter what you do.

i know someone who tried eating a salad covered with olive oil then 30 mins later had a glass of orange juice with a tea spoon of bi carb soda- went into labour that night.

yuk i know

i tried gutter walks, lots of walking, clary sage bath, lavender bath, jumping on the trampoline, epo capsuals where they shouldnt go, and i had 2 failed s&s's- 3rd one worked as labour started straight after- i also walked an hour the night before and had mild contractions from that

My brother proudly boasts that he brought on his wifes labour.
She was just over 40wks, it was summer and they said they would let her go 10days over before they would consider any sort of induction methods.
So she sent my brother to the chemist with a list of things to get. Amoung which were surgical gloves. He says he was then forced  to do a stretch and sweep, he was a little traumatised by the whole thing, until half hour later when he waters broke and it all started, he then went from traumatised to proud of himself.

A fork

I tried going for a walk every night, sex, jumping on the trampoline, none of which worked so I went and got a stretch & sweep, and went into labour about an hour after I got it done, she was born that night.

Took 2 in the morning, 2 for lunch and 2 at tea time....I had inserted one but only once because I didn't like it LOL

I noticed that the times that I forgot my contractions weren't as strong...when I remembered the bh contractions were extremely strong.

Can you go to the doctors and ask them to do it? Do you have to be over-due?

I'm not sure, maybe ask your midwife. I had mine done at 40 weeks.

I'm really horrified that you stuck a fork handle up there:eek::eek::eek: and glad you didnt do any damage
I strongly urge no one one to try this sort of thing.. nothing sharper then a very very clean finger should go up there (yours or your partners preferably with sterile glove on), unless it's under the control of a trained medical professional (and Id be reluctant to let them do anything like that as well)
I can understand the frustration ( I was 12 days over with really nasty pelvic instability and horrid backpain..so quite desparate for labour to begin) but doing anything like this is really really dangerous. You could tear your cervix, scratch the lining of your vagina and intro infection, puncture the membranes and introduce infection (I dont care how well you think you steralised it), even accidently damage the baby itself.

Sorry I know the threads meant to be about things people have done ..not whether they are safe or sensible or not.. but I don't want anyone to read this and think putting a fork or anything up there to try and stretch things is something they should try...

:shame:SO PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME:shame:

I did the hot curry/ chilli thing ..dinner, lunch dinner... started contracting early hours of following morning (had also been taking rasberry leaf tea, putting drops of clery sag oil in the bath, and taking and inserting EPO. The Osteopath I was seeing also did some pressure point massage on me..
