Hi everyone,
We are on our way up to Yeppoon to live and feeling a little nervous about finding a dr/obstetrician once we get there.. I have heard there is a hospital at Yeppoon but they dont deliver babies - only at Rocky... is this true?
Would love some referrals to GOOD dr's etc and any tips etc would be wonderful.
Liv (14 months) was breech and I had a planned caeser so haven't experienced the whole contraction/labour thing yet.... heck, very scared! :( I am due april 18.
Anyway would love to hear from you!
Thanks so much

Hi Anna..!!
Welcome to Yeppoon!! Have you moved yet? I hope you'll enjoy Yeppoon. It's a beautiful small town to live, perfect for family. If you're looking to meet new mums in Yeppoon once you're all settle, pm me and I'll pass on the details.
Anyway, it is true that Yeppoon doesn't have labour ward in their hospital. You could still opt for your regular check up in Yeppoon hospital, but you'll have to deliver your baby in Rocky.
Are you going private or public?
I had Olivia in Rocky Base hospital, and from my own experience, I can not thank them enough.
I had an elective c/s as, the midwives were all great! I had my own room, after 4 days I didn't want to go home
If you would like to know more, just pm me and I'll be more than happy to answer it..

Thanks guys so much for your replies! We are in Brisbane with family at the moment - hoping to be up in Yeppoon by 15th Feb, excited but scared at the same time!
Hoping to go Public - is the Rocky Base Hospital public?
Are the checkups etc done through the midwives, if that's so... I guess I wont need a obstetrician etc. Is there a doctor's surgery in Yeppoon - any Dr's worth recommending?
Thanks again - have a great day!
Cheers,
Anna

Hi guys
Not long till the move now.. Must be busy packing now?
Anna- Rocky Base is public. For your regular check you can choose a share care with your gp, or just through the hospital. There are some good doctors here in Yeppoon, but I don't think any of them bulk bill for adult. The one that I saw was Dr Wong from Yeppoon family practice. He listened to all my worries and he took his time, and he explained everything to me so clearly. I ended up doing my check up through the midwives every 2 or 3 weeks in Rocky, and she was really good, too!
When I had my dd, they were so helpful. They told me to buzz them whenever she needed to feed so that I didn't need to twist to get her. And there was a night when I woke up with dd on my chest, and the midwive was tucking me in with the blanket :cloud9:  I can't praise them enough, so I hope you'll receive the best treatments there, too :D
oh and I have to mention our dd have very similar name. My dd's name is Olivia Grace Maya and she was born on the 22/10/07. Pretty close, too, hey?
So if you guys would love to catch up once you're all settle, let me know..:D
Good luck and save move guys!

I'd love to know if you guys are doing a play group or any other mummy and bubby activities... so far all I've heard about is baby bounce at the library - is that any good?
I've booked in to go to dr roppnarinesinh aka dr cashat the Mater Private Hospital - has anyone heard anything about him??

Catch ya soon, Jode!!
Hi Everyone,
I just found this forum looking for something else online... I know this is an old thread but thought it appropriate place to introduce myself. I am Rachael, a mum to 3 young children.
Some may know me already, I work as the only homebirth midwife in Central Queensland. I seem to travel all over CQ attending births and it is a bit exhausting and have decided to stay local to Yeppoon now with 3 children, traveling is too exhausting! I'll also be doing private lactation consultancy and child health.
Does anyone know if there are any AP playgroups in Rocky or Yeppoon? I've just moved and would like to hook into something and meet some locals!
I cannot say a bad word about rocky base hospital. I had my son there in sept. labour staff were great and so caring, they made it a nice environment with lighting and music without me even asking. once bub had gone into distress they were very quick to get me to emergency csection ( no heart beat on the way to c section). my c section went great, dissolvable stitches which is rare 4 emergency csections, bub was taken care of straight away, they were so kind to DF. I had my own room and was never in pain. didn't rush me to feed bub, only when I was ready. They even scrubbed the blood out of my undies, now that's service! took bubby boy when I needed sleep. I couldn't recommend them any higher. Good luck!

Hello!
I'm a new mum ( well have 3 month old girl) in yeppoon! I haven't met any mums in the area either so would be good if anyone wants to do a catch up or playgroup or something.
Rocky hospital is good. Cedar park medical centre seems to have some really good doctors to!
Does anyone know of any playgroups with young buns in?

Rachel (dinah) I wish I had found this forum a month ago, I struggled with breastfeeding after a bout of mastitis that landed me in hospital for 3 days and unfortunately had to give up. I was unable to find anyone that gave and decent help or support as I was living in a small town with no lactation consultants.
Anyway, I am a 20yr old mum of a nearly 4 month old baby boy called Noah (born new years day) we have just moved to yeppoon for my husbands work and would also love to find some kind of playgroup around the area to get us both out of the house and meet people!
I was also looking for a doctor for my baby and I live in taranganba so I will give the surgery down there a go Thanks!
Renee

Hi Renee,
I am happy to help you to relactate if you'd like?
Thanks but I've already tried and my son is not the faintest bit interested in going back on the boob, and I don't think I'm ready for failure again, as I had trouble from day 1 and persisted as I was very anti-formula. Had Severely cracked nipples as I hadn't been taught proper attachment, and the whole thing was just terrible (I know its not meant to be).
He also had very bad diarreah while being breastfeed (10-12 snot like poos a day) sorry for details lol. And the doctor just told me the antibiotics from hospital could have been a bit rough on his tummy, and he therefor struggled with my milk...so I put him on formula for 48hrs and just expressed my milk, and by the second day he was a happy & content baby with normal poo! So at the end of the day decided he was doing better on formula and besides the huge amount of guilt I was carrying, I too was doing better.
I know I'll be able to give it a go with the next baby and I would love to experience that beautiful bond wth my baby. I really wish that I had just known how difficult it was going to be! I think we all focus on labour too much and believe me, in my opinion I would do labour over my 2 month battle with breastfeeding again anyday!
Parenting is certainly a very large learning curve and you are right, pregnancy and labour/birth are just the beginning.
That's ok. Just thought I'd put it out there and let you know that it was an option if you so wanted to give it a go. It sounds like your baby's poos were are result of a large oversupply and too much foremilk. Thus resulting in insufficient milk removal resulting in mastitis. Sometimes antibiotics go through the milk a bit, but generally dont' present *too* much of a problem.
But you know knowledge is power, so when you are pregnant next time, do a whole heap of reading on mastitis, prevention and oversupply (and treatment) and get lactation support from day one and I'm positive you'll thrive and so will your little one:)

wow, that sounds completely right as when I would express I was getting 180mls off each side and it lookd lie it was about 10mls of milk with the rest water (very dilute) so I guess that means he was living off water kind of. Thats probably why he wasn't gaining weight. which wasnt too much of a worry being born 4.22kg lol! I had a lady tell me I just had lost the quality of my milk hence the watery likeness. That is great to know for next time, and yes I will be doing 9 months worth of breastfeeding research! I cant believe I went to 2 doctors and 3 health nurses and none of them thought of that. I hope your still around when we have the next one!
That sounds about right. Unless a health professional has done specific training in lactation, they don't have any idea about breastfeeding issues let alone solutions. This is how myths spread and are given off as facts. There is also a lactation consultant through community health, she is also a child health nurse, Julie Semple is her name. It is so important if you are having any problems or questions, so hire a IBCLC. While the cost might seem expensive in comparision to the ongoing cost of formula and the life long consequences of FF'ing it is negligable, an investment if you like :) Sometimes it is a bit of a learning curve having babies and all. :hugs:
Hi Ladies, how are you?
Im so hopeless at checking bub hub because I'm always on facebook. I run the Yeppoon Mums group which is also a good way to meet new people and get some info. My email is nicola_ketelaars@hotmail.com so please feel free to add me as I don't have time atm to catch up on this long msg. I hope you are all loving Yeppoon as much as I do. I moved here 2 years but sometimes still feel like a newby. I hope to buy a house here and stay for a very long time. My partner also works at the mines so I run a support group for women who have partners who work away. Hope to talk to some of you soon. Nikki
