My DS is 8.5 mths old and is still rear faced this is due to a few reasons some being for safety reasons and others being for personal reasons eg. he falls alseep in the car alot and its more comfy laying down. My DS is happy rear faced but i feel like maybe i should turn him so he can look around, im sure he will love it.

My questions are, when do u turn ur babies? and for wat reasons?

If he is happy rear-facing and still isn't too heavy to be rear-facing, I see no need to change it.

DS was 14months and 12kg. The 12kg being the reason we turned him to Fwd facing. 12kg is the max rating for our carseat to be rearward facing. That is the plan for the next babies too. Thier safety is the most important thing to me, so it would take alot to convince me otherwise. I have hear dof babies with bad reflux being turned, simply because it was safer for them than choking on their own vomit....which is a darn good reason for me.....it's looking out for their safety first.

Both my bubs have been turned when they reach the weight limit for rear facing (12kg in our seat)

Brayden was 19months
Harlan was 7months

i wouldnt turn for any other reason. being rear facing they dont know what they are missing as they have never been forward facing, so i wouldnt worry about that. :)

DS is 8.2 kgs so has a little while to go yet before he reaches the max weight.

Its nice to hear that others have got there babies past 12 mths rear faced, i am hoping to get my son to 12mths dont no why i started to re think that:confused:, lots of mums turn there babies the day they turn 6 mths.

To the mums who had babies rear faced for past 12 mths wat did u go to keep them from getting bored? lots of toys?

Right now im just giving my son toys attached to the carseat via rings, books, block, mobile ova his head and he feels asleep .

We turned my ds's seat around when he was 11kg at 11 months. We were about to go away and it was possible he'd reach 12kg while we were away, hence doing it at 11kg. Otherwise I would have waited til 12kg. He can still look out the window - just a different perspective to us, but who says people in cars have to look forwards (it's just what we're used to).

Posted at the same time :)

Yes, clip on toys to clip onto the belt (usually the one above their head holding the seat in place) or soft toys or one of those big mirrors that go near their feet - that's fun :)

My daughter was almost breaking her neck trying to turn and see us in the front and her legs were all bunched up against the back seat so we turned her at 6 months. She Is so much happier being able to see us and having room for her legs! She could have been turned earlier as she is a big boomba bub so she was struggling to fit with the seat rearward facing, but I was told it is illegal to have them facing forward before they are 6 months so she just had to put up with being uncomfortable for a while.

DS is 1 and 10kgs. I will be keeping her rear facing until she hits 12kg (the weight limit of her seat for rear facing). It is the safest position for a baby/child to be in in the event of a crash. I have a 2.5 year old who is forward facing and they love being able to see each other easily.
Some car seats can semi recline while forward facing so that could be an option for you. I think I did that when I changed DS around.

i turned DS1 at 18 months only because his brother was taking his seat

there is NO NEED to turn a baby before they reach the weight limit of facing backwards

what makes you think he wont be just as bored facing forwards?
if anything Rylan had a better view facing backwards out the window!
