I'm completely over the boredom of being a sahm mum and would really lke to get back into the workforce.. biggest problem being there is no way i could afford to childcare full time or even close to it. So i'm thinking if i could get something where i can work only 1 or 2 days a week i should be able to afford the childcare cost.. well my entire earnings will probably go straight on it but thats worth it for the sake of keeping my sanity in tact i think.
So my question being is there anyone here that only works 1 or 2 days a week? What sort of work do you do? Was it hard to find something with so little hours attached?
TIA

hi,
not much help here but I am currently working on a casual basis as a pca in an aged care facility. And I don't know if I will be able to continue working there for much longer because it costs us too much for me to work. after paying for daycare i have about $15 left so it is really not worth me working. plus any that i earn cuts down our family tax benefits. so i am looking at working weekends and evenings so my husband can mind the kids. but it's hard because he has to work long hours and when he is home he likes all of us to be there as a family. But i was tired of being a SAHM and not having any spare cash so i went back to work. there just doesn't seem to be the perfect job situation/ SAHM life balance for me yet. still looking!:)

hi harvestmoon (and summerly)
i feel your pain, it is really really hard isn't it.
harvestmoon, have you applied at your local supermarket for work as a casual nightfiller? i worked as a nightfiller for 4 years while i was at uni, we had lots of mums who worked 2 nights a week. you can do 5pm - 9pm (or thereabouts) on weeknights and some supermarkets do dawn fill as well if that suits you better (5am - 9am or thereabouts). it is hard work but they usually have such a big pool of casuals that they don't mind if you only want to work 2 nights (not sure about 1 night).

Thanks for the replies. I already do nightfill 5/6 nights per week. I just want day work on top of it. I think i would only be able to afford childcare 2 days max.. even that would be stretching it.
I'm just so bored of the "same sh!t, different day". I need some variety in my life. I never intended being a sahm mum for so long.
If only i was still in my teens i could go get a fastfood job..lol.

I used to do nightfill and when I wanted more work, I'd work during the day on the w/ends doing the ends at my work where all the specials go...great pay on a sunday!
I work 8-12 hours p week in 4 hours stints but I am self employed. it works really well. Can you do somehting where you decide your own hours? working for yourself?

oh i see! yeah i agree with lavagirl, i used to 'the ends' as well, never got paid extra coz we didn't have sunday trading but got some good hours on a saturday out of it!
sorry maybe a stupid question but have you looked into the childcare benefit from the family assistance office, where you can get discounted childcare fees?

sorry i have no advice, but if it helps, i know exactly what you mean :hugs:
Hi i'm in this boat to i have 4 kids my youngest is nearly 1 and before i was with my husband three years ago i was studying but that was wasted as i feel pregnant and i have been a sahm since i love my kids to bits but i need to get out of the house and earn my share even though hubby earns enough i just hate the fact that i'm not out there as well i loved working and worked when my two girls were young but i really miss it atm i guess i'm feeling guilty because i don't feel like i'm earning money to help with the bills and this is driving me insane!!:hair:

Extra work or day work is just about impossible to come by where i'm at. I wouldn't want to do it anyway even if it were.. would mean i would lose hours at night and i rely on that money so thats' not a possibility.
I already know my ccb entitilement.. i have to pay about $70/day atm so if i were to work more that would go up a bit. It would be pretty hard for me to come out on top by working and using daycare. Thats why i only want 1 or 2 days. Even if my whole wage just goes on daycare fees i think it's worth it for the sake of my sanity. I don't care about losing FTB cause i only have very little entitlement to it atm anyway.

What sort of work are you doing if you don't mind me asking?

would you consider volunteer work? or taking up a new hobby? i know you wouldn't get paid for it, so you'd have to do it when your DH is home to look after the kids so no childcare cost, hard to find the time i know, but if it's variety in your life that you're looking for, do you think trying a new hobby or working somewhere like rspca (if you like animals) or foodbank would be the answer, to meet new people and do new things in a new environment, if it's hard to find a new job that suits? just a suggestion, i hope things work out better for you soon.
