View Full Version : its started...the biting phase!
Ok they are biting me, DH and eachother, really hard.:crying: Help. What do I do. Ive never had to discipline them before and don't want to smack. Ive tried picking up and moving them to another part of the room and ignoring them for a minute or so. What does everyone think? Do you think they will get the picture? DS puts his fingers into DD's mouth, she bites her, he screams crying and then he does it again???!!
Hi :)
When Andrew went through this phase, whenever he would bite me (usually me, very rarely dad..i guess cos he's not around as much), I would remove him and say firmly "Stop biting, that hurts mummy". If he did it again, I'd repeat what I said, and put him on the floor for a minute. If he kept on coming back, I would completely remove myself from the situation - ie walk away to the kitchen or wherever.
I was consistent, he got the same routine whenever he did it, and so learnt to expect that biting = not being close to mum.
I'm happy to say that biting is a very very rare thing nowadays. When it does happen, it tends to be because he's frustrated and trying to communicate something. The usual - hungry, tired, dirty. If you can pick up on somethign that is triggering the behaviour, you can try to ensure that they don't feel that frustrated very often.
Good luck with it - pick how you're going to deal with it, and BE CONSISTENT. :)
(Wait for the headbutting phase....now THATS fun...)
Oliver went through this phase not too long ago. I would put him in his cot for 2 minutes then go in and get him make him say sorry tell him it hurt me etc. This went on for about 4 weeks and he was still biting every day, eventually DH bit him back, the one thing I wouldn't have done and he hasn't done it since.
Not everyone's solution, it wasn't mine but it stopped straight away.

Hey your two little ones were born the same day as my ds, Jack! He too has stated to bite me but i just dont pay any attention to him and when he does hurt i tell him "its not nice to bite." followd by a little tap on the hand or i put him in another room.
