I cant believe I am writing this, but I am seriously considering delaying the rota virus part of the vax. DS is due on friday, but my gut tells me not to get it done.

He already cries all the time has shocking colic and reflux and is currently on losec, gaviscon and elecare for his symptoms

My question is has anyone else delayed it OR gone ahead with it and ended up with more gut issue because of the vax??

No debates please just your own personal stories would be greatly appreciated.

I had it done for my DD, and she was fine. However, she did not have problems like your little one does, so I cannot comment on that front. But I was definite that she have this one, because gastro is just NASTY...

i thought you couldnt delay this one as all 3 had to be done b4 32weeks. and a certain gap between each of them??? because after 32weeks it increases the risk of "something" sorry im not much help.

someone can fill in my gaps:o

my son had them done as per schedule, i didnt at the time even realise there was an issue with reflux/colic babies and this immunisation.
he has reflux and at the time was on zantac and mylanta. he reacted pretty badly. fevers vomitting diarreah etc. nothing permanent that im aware of although im not sure what the issue is?
if u having a real gut feeling id say go with your gut

my girls both have bad reflux on zantac losec and elecare - we had been told when dd1 was newborn NOT to get the rota virus done - any child they said that had gi problems shouldnt get it done - it can be really bad our gp told us.. my dd2 is 6 mo and shes not done either :)

You cant delay this one you either give it to them or you dont.

I wouldnt.

I gave it to my DS2 & I didnt want it to be given to him but forgot to ask before they did it ....

I will swear black & blue that it led to more problems for us. He has GORD & bowel issues along with intolerances.

It CAN cause issue in a child with bowel problems & there CAN be issues if the child has reflux ...

You really need to speak with your bubs Paed &/or GI to get some answers about it all but they may still be 'for it'.

I will never allow another child of mine to have this vax.

When DS was born it wasn't on the schedule for him (it was for babies born 1 week later though, go figure), but we could pay for it if we wanted it. There was a time frame on it, it had to all be administered before 6 months or something.

I didn't get it for my son, partly because of his reflux - an oral vaccine was just guaranteed to end up all over my t shirt and not do him any good at all!

Speak to your GP or immunisation clinic about your concerns.

As mentioned previously this one is not delayable, you either have it or dont. The above link has stacks of info for you to look at.

This wasn't on the schedule for us when DS was small but we elected to give it to him anyway because rotavirus is seriously nasty. DS had reflux and the vaccine did not make it worse. He did have really gross nappies though so perhaps it tends to affect the lower bowel rather than the intestines?

I'm a big advocate of mother's intuition. Good luck with your decision.

very interesting! so its a yes or no I cant wait.

Oh well. DS1 didnt have it he got crook with norovirus and that was bad enough

DS2 had no gut troubles till he had the vax and has had constant diarr since. Maybe a coincidence.

Now DS3 is the world worst baby for settling and tummy upsets I know deep down it is going to give him more troubles.

I have an appt with the doctor about his reflux and heart before his needles so I think we will have to chat about what to do.

Sometimes being a mum is so hard - making the right decision!

Yeah it has loads about the vax itself but not much about any problems it can cause ....

The thing is until its been on the market for a good 10 solid years we really do not know what issues it an truly cause .... Enough for me to stay clear.

Plus when specialists advise against it when a child has GORD & bowel issues that says enough for me!

My son does not have reflux but he had a severe adverse reaction to the rota vaccine at 2mth shots. I was told to proceed with the 4 mth shot anyway - which I did reluctantly at 5 mths. He has had another bad reaction adn I will not be getting the 3rd lot.

If you are breastfeedinmg - I did see some research that said that breastfeeding protected against it as much as the vaccine but I don't know how that works or for how long the protection lasts.

I just can't put my healthy bub through that again - awful (screaming for days, hives, etc)

eta: by shot - I mean dose. lol!

There is an amazing new website called Beyond Vaccination http://forums.beyondvaccination.com/

This has been set up by Hillary Butler - author of Just a Little Prick. There is an AMAZING wealth of knowledge there. Before you do anything, RESEARCH!! I don't mind what conclusion people come do with regards to vaccination, so long as they have done their research....
