View Full Version : Anyone have a great nappy bag?
My first baby is due in August and I am overwhelmed at the choice in nappy bags!
I am looking for one thats not too huge (just like a handbag, I get the feeling you will fill it to capacity no matter how big it is!), has pockets for handy access to purse, keys, etc. and one not too girly that my husband would not mind carrying it about. Apart from this I'm not sure what other features I should be looking for.
I've had the Oi Oi bags suggested to me and don't mind paying in this price range if it means getting a bag that is functional and will last.
Does anyone have any suggestions or comments for a great nappy bag?

I had a backpack first time round and it was great!! I loved it because I could have it on and still carry bubs and not worry about the bag sliding off my shoulder or being pulled off by bub. I could also use my backpack and baby bjorn together really easily but always had trouble if I had the carrier on and was trying to carry a shoulder bag. I can't remember the brand but I will dig it out and have a look and post it later.
Second time I just use my handbag!! I bought a big one with a divider in the middle. It is big enough on one side for my wallets, keys and junk and the other side fits a couple of nappies, travel pack of wipes, a bottle and I used chuck a spew rag in on top of it all. It has a couple of pockets on the outside that are handy for my phone and dummies and little things that are hard to find in a big bag. It's great and I can't believe I didn't do it sooner.

i don't know about the nappy bags ....my first one was an oversized mimco handbag that cost me a fortune, it was ok, but the one i stuck with was a $25 target one.
but my tip, off the nappy bag topic, is i leave in the car at all times an emergency stash of nappies and a stash of nappy wipes for those times when you've accidentally run out or just as a contingency plan. and always remember to change the nappies over as the baby goes up in size.
yep we have a bag of el cheapo nappies kicking around the back of the car...i have a box of wipes near Dds carseart because its much easier to wipe her face and hands when she is strapped in. I also bought a Ryco nappy bag from target but the lining has ripped

i'm starting to use those bags you always get free with magazines. i have quite the collection and i don't use them for anything else. there great if you need just a couple of nappies and a bottle of water for a trip to the park.

I had a crappy cheap nappy bag with my first baby and hated it! She's old enough now that I get away with having just her little kiddy backpack (so cute!) and its just big enough to fit some snacks, bottle and a spare nappy etc in.
However with baby no.2 arriving soon I was determined to buy a good nappy bag this time!
I bought a Wendy Bellissimo satchel nappy bag the other day (from Toys R Us) and its great! Its very cool, and doesnt look like a nappy bag at all. Bit expensive, but well worth it in my opinion.

I bought a Kapoochi nappy bag and find it very good....It has plenty of room for all you bubs stuff...Has shoulder straps to carry on your back like a back pack or you can use it as a shoulder bag....Not too big and not too small....
I also looked at the Oi Oi bags....they are very trendy....:D I like em...
These days as I dont need as many things I bought a smaller bag from Big W and its fits a couple of nappies,Wipes, change of clothes and any other small bits and pieces....
I recommend a bigger bag when bubs is a newborn as you need many changes of clothes, more nappies, bunny rugs etc...
Good Luck....

I have a Ryco bag from Target, it costed me about $25 and it is quite good, does not look like a nappy bag and people have complimented me on it, so it must be ok, lol, DS is nearly six months old and it is still in pretty good condition.

I use a Colarado satchel that has a long strap that fits over the pram handle or can be carried on the shoulder. It has 3 compartments and 2 side pockets. It looks good and hubby can carry it without looking like a dork. It still looks like new after 13 months with the twins and I paid $20 for it on special!

i had a napppy bag but my mum made me a bag out of an old pair of jeans. she cut the legs off and sewed in a bottom. it is so good you have heaps of pocket for wallets and phones and key and bottles and all the other stuff. it is big enough inside to fit several nappies, wipes, snacks, bottles, toys, clothes, and everything else a baby needs.
if you want one made send me your old jeans and then just specify what colour you would like the lining to be.
i just love mine.

I've ended up buying three nappy bags since DD was conceived and couldn't say that I like any of them!
One is a big bag, sort of a sports bag style that I bought from Big W. Its good for overnight trips, you can fit everything in it.
The other two are Ryco ones, different sizes, they're okay for short-ish trips.
I wish I'd just spent all that money on the Oi Oi one that I really wanted - I've spent as much on the three anyway!
Wow thanks everyone for all those suggestions about what has worked for you (and what hasnt!) I loved the idea of keeping an emergency stash of stuff in the car. :yelclap:
I had been wondering about the backpack type ones - certainly handy when you need two hands free and a compact way to go to the supermarket I guess with a baby carrier on the front. But I thought they may not be easy to hook over and carry on the pram?
Its been interesting to hear about the variety of bags that you all use. When I've looked at the bags that are around, they look so huge and I always think 'what on earth would you fill them up with!' and I guess as a first time mum, you feel you don't want to be caught without something you need, so you overcompensate and take everything! I am a minimalist at heart too so your suggestions have been really helpful as to what I really need to pack and have with me.
Have a sensational day! :D

I found my backpack easier to hook on the pram than my over the shoulder bags!!
Good Luck on your hunt for the perfect nappy bag
Hi have a GR8 star change bag that was a gift from a friend and it is the best! The change mat is built in and removable to wash, lots of pockets, light weight has shoulder strap or back pack straps - the best! Folds out into instant change mat with all your gear right on hand no need to unpack anything!

I'm not going to read through all the replys so i'm sorry if this has already been mentioned, I just got the Gubby back pack by Kapoochi. I love it it's not too bid has a change matt a seperate bottle bag a mobile phone holder and a few little compartments in the bag.
I did have the rayco nappy bag which was good when bub was young but know his older and i dont need to take so much around with me i wanted something smaller.
oh and the straps and the backpack also have some clips at the top so you can clip it onto your pram handle bars!! smart thinking:yelclap: :yelclap:

Kapoochi - Milan carry all....... We paid $119 for it but a friend of mine just told me they are 1/2 price at toys are us (well actually all nappy bags are there atm). We love it so much and it is well worth the money.
Beware of some of the cheaper ones as ive heard of a lot of broken zips etc:fingerscrossed:

I have a Quicksilver satchel bag that I paid $15 for from a factory outlet on the Gold Coast. It's great. Fits everything in it, and doesn't actually look like a nappy bag. It only has the main compartment and a small side pocket. Has a clip on the inside where I put my keys so I don't have to go fumbling for them.
I picked up a change mat from bigW for about $7 which has two compartments for wipes and nappies, and it all folds up into a little bundle about the size of a nappy. I wanted a 'proper' nappy bag but just couldn't justify paying the price for one.

Charlotte has a watermelon pink Roxy bag - that goes over the pram handles well & it is a bit bigger than most of the nappy bags we looked at it. I love it & we always get comments on it. I also bought a smaller one with all the compartments form my local baby store. Do look around though & sometimes you can get them on sale.
Good luck
