View Full Version : Optimum Birth
Is anyone else studying getting really crappy service from Optimum Birth or am I just lucky?
2 weeks ago I attended a very traumatic birth. I sent OB an email asking to speak to my facilitator to discuss and get some support. I sent it again a few days later. Now 9 days later I get an email from an unnamed person telling me to be patient as the facilitator has lots of people wanting her attention.
Not only are questions going unanswered and the person responding to emails doesn't put their name to it but now I cant even get any support for a really difficult time!
So whats everyone else experiencing? Is it just because Ive paid all my money and finished the theory or are others completely unimpressed also?
Ok, rant over.
I agree with you Karen. I am doing the CBE through CBI and they are FANTASTIC. They were so supportive through this time. I got fantastic advice which is what helped me put the situation into perspective. When I signed up for OB mid last year they were great too. dont know what happened.

Thankyou for posting this, you've probably just saved me lots of $$$ and frustration.
I want to start doula training when I go on maternity leave in August. I looked at CI (very impressed) and OB (because I wanted someone local).
About a month ago I sent an email to Opt. Birth with about 8 very specific, very detailed questions I wanted them to answer about the course. FINALLY about two weeks later I get a response from "someone" saying that they are currenly redoing their website and a FAQ section is being added which will answer my questions - check in a week.
Two weeks later and the FAQ section still isn't up. And I seriously doubt whether a FAQ would adequately address the detailed questions I was asking about anyway.
I felt their website was very light on content and was initially suspicious of the slick look of it with little meaty information. I used to work for a private education provider which had a similar type of approach to their marketing so that set off alarm bells for me.
I have not had further response from them from any of my questions, or an update on when the website will be finished. If this is an indication of what their support will be like once you hand over the cash, forget it. And I am at the point where I am ready to hand over cash....their loss
They can get stuffed I will be going with CI. Thanks for the headsup (and sorry you're having so much trouble :( )
Oh Emmylou thats not good. :( ......or rather it may be as CBI are fantastic. I only didn't go with them first because they were overseas but now I am doing the CBE course through them and its fabulous. Plus I attended a sydney doula workshop a few weeks ago and it was just incredibly enlightening.
When I started with OB they were fantastic. Very personal service, prompt responses and fantastic support. I have no idea what happened. The director is a lovely woman and a fantastic doula from all Ive heard so I cant honestly believe this is how they want to be perceived but there you go.
Good luck with your training. Its a good course.
Im going to close this as I probably shouldn't have posted it in the first place. Was just experiencing frustration and disappointment but I dont want to turn people off the course if they are wanting to do it as it is a great course regardless of my current frustration with the running of it.
