View Full Version : When did your bub turn to head down position?
Hi everyone,
I'm just curious at what stage of your pregnancy did your bub turn to head down?
With my first daughter, she was breech and remained that way until 40 weeks when I had an elective C/S.
With this 2nd pregnancy, bub has turned (the ob told me on Monday) and I'm 31 weeks pregnant.
Does this increase chance of going into labour early?
This pregnancy feels sooo different to the first and I just have a feeling I will go into labour early!
Thanks
Nicole

Hi Nicole,
When I was pregnant with my DS he was positioned head down from about week 24 for me and stayed that way until I had him at 39 weeks. I asked my OB about him being that way so early and could I go into labour early and he said no. I was worried as you are concerned, but nothing came of it and he went to nearly full term.

I have had my 28 week appt and she was head down. If the obs let me go I would go 2 weeks late but they won't let me go that long. I don't think it matters when they turn head down it's just better that they do at some time. I will be having a Cs so it doesn't matter at all for me.

my first 2 were down before 34 weeks...
my 3rd flipped into footling breech at 36 weeks, and was turned by a dr at 37 weeks..
ds was down by 34 weeks...
only my first engaged before labour... the rest didnt get into my pelvis until it was almost time to come out
DD was head down at our 18 week scan and stayed that way. I didnt have her til my due date but my labour was a breeze.
This time bubs has been transverse lie (sideways) since 12 weeks and Im now 28 weeks - we still have time though.
Good luck, its defintaly a good sign
my son was in the transverse position most of the pregnancy and decided to turn at 36 weeks but never dropped and his head never engaged . 40weeks I had an emergency c-section due to fetal distress and I was a risk to induce anyway due to bub being up to high.

31 weeks is pretty much "textbook" time for a second baby to turn head down (2nd babies often go head down later than first babies...first babies are usually head down by 28 weeks or so but some much later).
No bearing at all on going into labour early - sounds like everything is happening just as it should. Don't worry :)
