Last night was doing some sweeping and when i sat down my heart started to race really fast i could feel it in my chest it was racing so fast and hard that it made my chest hurt. When i goto the hospital they took my pulse and it read 240bpm:eek: .They quickly wheelied me into emergency and put heart monitors on me and sent me to resuss where a team of doctors where waiting for me.It was so quick and a this time i was really scared. They explained to me that my heart was racing along because of the electricity in my heart. They gave me 6mls of this medication that would slow my heart down and it didnt work so they had to give me a second lot.My pulse started to go down and sat at about 140bpm which was a big improvement.I was then left on heart monitors all night and morn they also gave me magnesium to bring my heart rate down a bit more and went down to bout 100bpm.All the bloods were clear and said that i hadnt damaged any heart muscles(heart attack). They couldnt find a reason for why i had this though.

Any 1 else had an expirience like this and what was the outcome please much appreciated.

Jaclyn,
That is scary!!!! I've had a few episodes where my ticker feels like it's beating out of my chest and sinking down the front of my chest and skipping beats. If I stay still it goes away but it's concerning!!!
Please, if we don't get an answer, post an update when you get an idea. Might give me an idea on what's going on my own ribcage.
I hope e'thing turns out well for you though:thumbsup:

Hi there,
Good news that you didn't have a heart attack and no damage was done during this attack, and the fact that they couldn't find a reason for it leads me to believe you may have SVT (supra ventricular tachycardia) or something similar, which is usually 'benign' (non life threatening) electrical short circuit in the heart. To have it diagnosed you need to be referred to a cardiologist, and yes there are methods of fixing it, that are not too drastic :D
I have had SVT most of my life, and I also have a PFO (large hole) and a pacemaker (all separate issues) so I totally understand how you must have felt, and how scarey it can be. The main thing is not to worry too much, what they haven't found means it is all good news, and once figured out by a specialist is easily remedied.
Am happy to chat with you anytime about it all, so feel free to pm me :hugs:
Take care Denise xxx

I have had this happen to me twice and I'm only 24 and in no way could I be considered overweight (age and obesity are the first things docs look at )

Mine is completly unexplained, meaning no cure, just need to keep an eye on it, so don't expect to find a reason that can be fixed.

Hi all,
Just an update re my heart i went to the doctors and now have a name for it its called SVT she gave me a few things that i can do to try and stop the palpitations when they come on.I asked if it was serious and she said no its more of an annoyance than anything, but she said some people have had it that bad eg.everyday that they had to get an opperation on their heart to burn the pathway that sends out the electricity but isnt very successful very hard to pinpoint the pathway.Anyway she wrote a letter to the hospital where im having bub so they can look after me till i have bubs then my doctor will give me a referal to a cardiologist. So yeh :fingerscrossed: i dont get any more palpiations.

I suffered from bad heart palpatations years ago when I was about 21. My heart rate was well over 200bpm. I went straight to the doctor who put me on a heart monitor for 24 hours to see what was happening. From then I took Betablockers for about 6 years or so. I had to be put on a lower dosage when I was pregnant as I could affect my baby when she was born.

But in the last 6 months I have stopped taking the blockers and I have been fine. Every now and again I feel my heart race and beat out of rythum (sp??) but I have taught myself to not think about it and my heart rate goes down. I found mind over matter works for me, cause a few years back I suffered from panic attacks and if I don't think about it it goes away.
