Last night while in the shower DS who is 2 pulled his penis out of his foreskin, I know that I am not to try and get it out, someone told me that he will damage the nerves in his penis if the foreskin is retracted before they are 8 years old (which I think is a little old, but then I don't know much about foreskin's cause I dont have one:)).
Do I let him continue to do it or do I somehow try and stop him from doing it? And if I stop how do I go about it?

He wouldn't do it if it hurt him.
Let him go.
My DS can pretty much retract his too.. If it wasn't ok for him to do or it hurt or damaged him he wouldn't do it.
Simple. :)

Yeah, you know how sensitive boys are about their penises, if it hurt you'd know about it!

I believe the general rule is that they will retract it on their own when it's ready to happen. If he's done it himself & he wasn't forcing it, there was no pain etc, then it must have been ready to happen. I wasn't sure when it was supposed to happen either (DS's looks as though it is at least partially retracted) and from what I've read, it can happen anywhere from infancy to pre-teens.
The midwives said to me not to retract it... but that when they are older they will play with it, and it will gradually start to retract.
You arent supposed to do it, cos you dont know what hurts and what doesnt. As everyone else said, if it hurt him he wouldnt do it! So id say its perfectly fine
