I've just started a PhD, just bought a house, am *thinking* about another baby, and also about doing a DipEd by correspondence over 2.5 years so that by the time I've finished my PhD I'll also be able to teach.

Am I mad or just stupid?? :banghead:

I'll say you are brave!! I too am adicted to uni studies and would love nothing more than to stop work and go and study everything I've ever wanted to. Good for you, and good luck!!!

I wouldnt say you were mad at all, just dedicated and have goals.
Obviously a hard worker who loves a challenge, what could be healthier then that!
Good on you for doing what you want dont let a little complication stop you from completing the goals you have and seem so keen on. Just think in 3yrs time you'l have a family and an awesome job to support them, and best of all, it'l be doing something you love! best of luck to you!!

You are not mad or stupid

If you are determined enough to do it. It is possible.

It might be just the thing to take your mind off any bad preg symptoms. It worked for me!!

I congratulate you and every other parent that is out there studying and looking after a child. I first went back to study when i was 19 and my son was 1.5. I did a certificate at tafe, which helped me get into the uni course that i am in now. I want to get into Human services (child protection, juvenile justice). I have to put in long hours to get all my uni work done, but at the end of the day there is no greater reward then coming home and seeing my son and knowing that I am doing this for him, so i can provide him and myself with a life that i wouldnt be able to if i just sat around and stayed on centrelink my entire life. It gets hard at times (im a single mum), but you get through it. As long as you keep in mind the reason why you are doing it and remember that there are rewards to be gained from it, then you are not crazy. You are just like every other parent out there that is giving it a shot and wants to give themselves and their child/ren the best that they can.

Thanks everyone! Maybe I should stress that I am already doing a 40-hr per week PhD. DH thinks adding a part-time DipEd by correspondence will be a doddle

Hmmmm, hate to be the odd one out...but I think your mad!!!:D
Considering you are already studying a 40hr week, where on earth will you find the time to be human???
Hey, I applaud and wish you well if you decide to do it....you must be very organised! I'm treading water just studying part-time.

You may be mad.. but i think it's a 'good mad' ;) (if that makes any sense).

You sound like youv'e got the determination to succeed so good luck to you!:yelclap:

i will probably be in the same situation as you more toward the end of my degree and although i know it's crazy.. i still manage to justify it too myself!:D

lol... goodluck

I think what you're doing is fab! Having just had my second child, I now realise that just about anything is possible when there is only one child to look after. Now that I have two, there's barely time to have a shower every day, let alone add to my portfolio of degrees!

Are you going to do primary teaching or high school? I'm thinking of doing a Dip Ed too but just can't decide between the two. Little kids would be very rewarding to teach, but maybe high school teaching would be more interesting? I'd love to hear your thoughts - or anyone else's for that matter!

Definitely high school! I am doing PhD in history & love the subject rather than the kids :)

yeah, that's how i feel. i love English and history....but i'm not necessarily a massive fan of the teenage population! i think i'd be bored with primary teaching though.

good luck with it all. :)
