A very brief background...

I am a city girl. Moved a stones throw from the beach (where hubby grew up) when I started seeing him and fell in love with the ocean. Don't ever want to be far from the waves.

Bought our first property while I was still working. A small 2 bedder with a tiny yard. Was great for Hub, Dog & I but now that bub has come along, we want to get a bigger place.

Can't afford to spend $800k (or round about) for the kind of place we would like where we currently live, so have explored a heap of other avenues in order to stay close to the water.

We both like the idea of moving 'out of the way' and have stumbled upon some lovely properties on an 'island' which is only accessible by ferry or dinghy. Price is within our range, houses are beautiful timber properties which would be easy to add to (hub is a builder), still very close to the water with an amazing array of tree and wildlife around us...I'm worried about the isolation though.

I'd probably only be able to make it to the mainland once a week and we would need to completely change our way of living as we'd probably only do a big shopping trip for groceries once a month.

Has anyone else taken the 'sea or tree change' from the city? If so, how did/do you cope with the isolation.

Better yet, anyone moved to an island? (It's a long shot I know :p)

Thanks peoples.

Oh wow!!! How amazing! Lucky you!

If I was a SAHM, then I would do it in a heart beat! Imagine all the wonderful experiences your bub will grow up with. How beautiful!

I believe it would be much trickier if I was working full time and had to go to work and organise for our child to be in care/school.

I wish you the very best of luck!

Hi

What did you decide to do?

We live in a remote area, (like we drive 100kms to go to Coles or Country Target or get takeaway....even then there is only 1 supermarket, 1 take away and we would have to drive 1000km for movies) have since before DS was born....has been great for having young kids as we have been able to have heaps of family time.... we are planning to move at the end of this year because we want our kids to be able to do 'normal things' like have swimming lessons, play in a park etc.. just something to think about in the next few years.
