Hello everyone,

DF and I are moving to Hobart, Tasmania in January 2007. We are currently ttc our first child :smiliedance: and we are curious about day care (cost, etc.) and other family things to do around the area.:D

Thanks for your advice

Hello Tara!!
Wow we moved from Bris to Hobart just this February!
What areas are you looking at moving too? Will you rent or buy?
How come you guys are moving?
Sorry for all the questions!!
I find Hobart a great place to raise a family. You don't need alot of money to get around and there is so mcuh to enjoy that does not cost a thing!! :D

Hi Tara,

I moved to Hobart from England in February this year and like you was interested to know in advance what things there are to do.

I ahve found day care a bit of a nightmare, for any fo the decent places you need to get your baby's name down as soon as possible as the lists can be over a year long at some places. I assume that once you are pregnant you can put your baby down and then by the time you finish maternity leave your baby will have a space.

From what I have been told it is best to put your name down at a fe wplaces and ring them every few weeks to make sure you are always on their mind, they often record how often you call to see how keen you are!

There is a parent and baby/pre school group on Wednesday mornings in Sandy Bay and another on a Tuesday morning, these are the ones i know about, I think there may also be one in Taroona on a Wednesday.

There are lots of things to do and people are really friendly. Once you have a child all sorts of doors open to you, you become a 'member' of the club!

I wish you well in your move over here and of course in your TTC.

HI:wave:
My partner are looking for a rental property somewhere near the heart of Hobart. We both have job interviews in the hospitals in the city :smiliedance: . We are really excited. We went for vacation in Feb in Hobart and we fell in love with it. The people are wonderful! I have to say DF parents aren't happy about us moving so far away from them but we are really keen on moving! I don't know why people have such reservations about Tasmania... it's such a beautiful place. Thanks

I am really looking forward to Hobart and exploring what it has to offer. Daycare seems to be a nightmare no matter which city you are in.. but yeah I'll have to sign up once I get some good news. Thanks for your advice!
