My DS is two next week and we're having his party the following weekend.

No real theme to the party except I am getting everything in bright bold colours, have a baby animal farm coming :smiliedance: and am putting out his sandpit and a few other toys in the backyard. It's a mid-afternoon party.

I need help with a couple of things.

What type of non-competitive games can we do for toddlers ? I'm going to brightly wrap some little toys and bury them in the sandpit and put them in the garden so the little ones can find them but not sure what else to do ?

I have little noodle boxes for goodie bags and am putting a pack of sultanas, a heinz museli bar and a little toy in each. What about food for the party though ? I'm thinking of keeping it as healthy as possible (except for the cake and icecream:D ) so was going to make little quiches, have fruit smoothies to drink etc. What else ?

Any advice greatly appreciated !!!:D

You sound like you are well on track - we haven't ventured into games for ours at all yet so you are ahead of me on that front!

For food for our parties I normally do a big fruit platter - lots of cut up and skinned brightly coloured fruit - it always goes. For the non-healthy content, and because the kids love them, I also provide one bowl of the miniature cheesels - one bowl between a group of kids and my DH means that none of them is overdosing on them - and DD1 refers to them as "those special little things with holes that we have for parties" - an acknowledgement that she gets them twice a year - one for each party!! Then apart from that I find that the kids are not that interested in food - some crackers and cheese maybe but far more interested in the toys, balloons (you must have many of these) and each other. AT the 3 year old party we had earlier in the year the cake got some attention but even that didn't hold their attention as much as the fruit and toys.

I have many grand plans but just need to sure that I follow through with it all :o I've got to work out a cake yet but after last year's attempt, I may have to do a dry run a couple of days before (Note: Strawberries on unset chocolate icing will cause a running effect which is not a good one:( )

The fruit is a great idea !! Thanks !:D

Sounds like a great Party K:smiliedance: O wants to know where his invite is LOL:D

Party Food we are thinking of having at O's party in a couple of months;

Watermelon slices
Mixed sandwhiches, on brown bread sneak in some fairy bread and the kids will love em!
Iced arrowroot biscuts
cheese and mixed fruit platter with rice crackers
Potato smilies
water to drink

We are having it at a cafe play centre so all the equipment should keep them busy and parents can enjoy a nice cappacino:thumbsup:

Let me think of some toddler games and Ill get back to you.........

ohhh how exciting our boys are turning 2:smiliedance:

It sounds like it is going to be a fantastic party, you are so organised. Maybe you could make it a farmyard theme, it is pretty easy to dress up for and I find kids just love any opportunity to dress up.

With respect to the food, it all sounds good. I do cheerios, pikelets, nutrigrain and sandwiches. Something like berliner and tomato sauce.

Games, I agree with draught we don't do many in the toddler stage, they just prefer to play. The only ones we did was pass the parcel, but make it quick and a treasure hunt.

Good luck with the party it sounds great.

put some novelty things (little stickers, small lollies etc) inside balloons, blow them up, then turn the kids loose on them. it'll be the noisiest 20mins of your life, but the kids will have a ball.

Great ideas with the balloons and the dress ups.

Easterlily, happy to see I'm not the only one who offers Nutrigrain as finger food :D

Keep them coming please !

Never had a toddler party or any little kid party for that matter, but a friend told me a great boys version of fairy bread (i know it is unlheathy - but so cool) butter your bread as normal, then put milo on them and get some little bug lollies to put on top and 'voila' bugs in dirt!!

Kids Hot dogs...
Buy the little 'bake at home' dinner rolls you get from the supermarket and put the mini-franks in them. You could also have grated cheese if you don't mind the mess it may make.
I do these for every birthday party we have because the kids can easily hold this size and they love them!

One of my playgroup mummy friends brought along fruit kebabs a few weeks ago - she used paddle-pop sticks (no pointy bits!) and threaded banana slices, grapes, orange segments and a marshmallow onto each one. They were a big hit. I guess you could also just use your imagination and put lots of different fruits on it too - eg. strawberries, or big chunks of kiwi fruit.

Hope the party goes well, it sounds like "Ryno" and his friends are going to have a lovely time!
