My little boy is very constipated.

I know it's normal for breastfed babies to go for a few days without pooping. But he has been given 1-2 bottles of formula a day for the past 10 days and ever since he has been really constipated and only pooping every 3 days.

It is now day 4 since he pooped and he is so uncomfortable and cries when he releases gas.

The last poop he did was the concistancy of softserve ice cream and he screamed!

What can I do for him?

Tablespoon of prune juice worked for us with DS but I'm no doctor...... its the iron in the formula that makes them constipated so after we had big troubles with it I was super careful with how I made it up. MAybe someone in the bottlefeeding section has more info? Good luck, its awful watching them struggle hey?

hi jenl!
try giving him a nice warm bath with baby oil in it(helps oils the way:D)
also try a little pear juice its not quite as strong as the prune juice and works well(i had this prob with my first when she had the occasional comp FF bottle)
then do heaps of bicycle legs!

:iagree: A warm bath helps a lot! A bit of a tummy rub while in the bath can help them relax a bit too.

If it is really bad a small (and I mean small) dose of brown sugar in water (1 teaspoon to 40mls) every 3 hrs (or with each breast feed) will help a lot, but only as a last resort because it will go through them like a shot!

I know how bad it can be for them! My poor DD was like that for weeks and we had to resort to the brown sugar mix to help rectify the problem before adjusting her diet to make sure it doesn't happen again.
