We're having big problems with our DS, 10 wks old with reflux, protein allergy and possibly some kind of irritable bowel problem... He wakes constantly, is difficult to settle etc..

We've been referred to Tresillian as much for me for PND as for DS's problems but I;m concernd they're going to try to make me use controlled crying.. I can't do that!!

I believe when my baby cries he is telling me he's hungry/tired/in pain etc.. I can't ignore the one way my baby has with communicating with me..

Is it still worth me trying tresillian? Do they make you listen to your baby cry? Do they understand babies with reflux have special needs??

Sorry for the rambling, Im desperate for my baby to be happier and more settled, I'll try almost anything, I just don't know what to expect from tresillian...

So if you've been... what was your experience like??

I have been to Karitane and not Tresillian but just wanted to say . . you don't have to do anything you don't want to do . . it is that simple truly . . make yourself clear when you go in and layout what your comfortable with and what your not comfortable with . . they wont make you use controlled crying on a 10wk old . .

Thanks KaM.. I'm probably overreacting to what I've heard about there being a lot of crying at tresillian, I just really need to find a solution to Rome's problems - and I can't have it being for him to cry it out all the time!!

Anyone else been to Tresillian??

Have you thought about Karitane?

I chose that over Canterbury as it seemed to be a lot more flexible in what fits you and your child . .

I havent actually even thought of karitane - do I need a referral for them too? Are they like Tresillian? (i.e. can partners stay? do they provide wholistic support..??)

You do need a referral yes .. it can be from your GP or a health care nurse . .

Partners can stay (double beds and own bathrooms etc) and they have a lot of servies ..

This is their website : http://www.karitane.com.au/

I haven't been to either Karitane or Tressillian but nearby is another - user pays - service called The Infant's Home (at ashfield). I think they do day stays as well but I paid for a midwife to come and spend the day with me and DD at home and found them to be very helpful and practical. They are rebuilding their website but some basic info on them at:

ww2.theinfantshome.org.au/

Like I said, you have to pay for this service which means $$ but also shorter waiting list and no need for referral from GP. Good luck with it all

KaM Thanks for the info.. :hugs:

Three Pigs - Was the midwife helpful in etlling techniques etc? Because Rome has reflux and unresolved tummy upsets I'm really unsure of what to do or who to ask foir help..

We're seeing a paediatrician and a natropath but Tresillian was recommended because it could help me (PND) and bubs because they have a whole team there...

Has anyone actually been to Tresillian with a little one????

DD was 15 weeks old when I had the visit. So, still too young for cc. They did however suggest a routine of rock/pat till bub is calm, leave, if they cry go back in and start again. She was helpful in talking me through what was grizzling and didn't need responding to and what was crying and when too much settling with no result was too much for a little bub.

I found her (Lorraine Palmer was her name) to be pragmatic and very aware of my mental health too as I had been suffering anxiety (I guess a form of PND).

A friend of mine has been to Tressillian with both her bubs and she is a big fan of them and she doesn't like leaving bubs to cry either. I hope you get some more first hand responses though...I'd be interested myself.

I have been to Tresillian at Canterbury when my twins where 8 months old and still BFing through the night. Yes there is some crying but as the name suggests it is controlled. The nurses where fantastic, they would go in and pat them and if necessary pick them up to calm them down. More than anything it worked! If you are too stressed and can't handle it there is nothing to stop you from leaving, you can go at any time.
