Our family has been hit with the dreaded 'chesties'. I would usually take a vit supplement designed to reduce the symptons but I'm unsure if it is safe whilst I am breastfeeding. It is an echinacea blend (can't recall exactly) and I was going to get some tomorrow but I'm wondering if it will be OK. Any advice or suggestions on what is suitable?
Check with the pharmasist, they will know if your vitamins are okay to take. When I was sick they told me to take heaps of vitamin C, double the dosage, and I bought a vaporiser to help bub breath as he was sick also.
Hi
I am not to sure that I would take echinacea anything my parents used to grow the stuff and I think it is a far cry from what it is made out to be . IMOHO..they also stopped producing it several years ago.
When I had the flu when I was pregnant my GP advised that panadol was the safest to take whilst pregnant and breastfeeding, also vicks rub on your chest neck, back and feet will ease the symptoms, My little man has really suffered with the flu over the last couple of days he had raging temps it was just horrible.
I hope you and your family get well soon start whacking that vicks on...:hugs:

Thanks for your replies. I actually make my own chest rub from a vegetable base (not all that keen on petroleum based substances) and have been using it on the children. Didn't think about using it myself!:o

I've read a couple of different posts recently about this sort of thing and people keep suggesting vicks on feet - why?
I understand chest, and back, but what's the deal with feet?
hey sal
echinacea is safe for BF. won't effect the milk production or anything. the only thing would be what else is in the blend. stay away from anything with sage! the other thing would be if it is an ethanol tincture, but it probably wouldn't be any more alcohol than a glass of wine, if that!
hope u feel better!
and thanks for the steiner info!

Vicks can be quite harsh on littlies skin. The skin on their feet is more 'robust' (sp) then the skin on their bodies. IYKWIM
