Where can I take my son to be tested for intolerances/ allergies. The maternal & child health nurse told me today that i should get a referral to the clinic in the royal children's hospital but their waiting list is averaging 15 months. I can't wait that long, I'm going insane. Give suggestions of doctors/ clinics in Melbourne please. If I have to pay, so be it. I can't stand seeing my little one struggling anymore:crying: :crying:

The GP will be able to give you a referral to an allergist. They will be able to give you names too.:)
Most likely will be a private specialist so you will have to pay some of it.
Hi there - although we are in Sydney - we were referred to an independent allergist who did tests on my little one and in his case she fast tracked his tests through the kids hospital so we only had to wait 2 weeks. This might be an option for you if can get your paeditrician/family gp to recommend one for you.
Another mum from playgroup had a great deal of success with a place called " Advanced Allergy Elimination" They have a Melbourne Clinic - their website is
http://aaeclinics.com.au/flash/
Alternately http://www.allergycentre.com.au/ Located in Mitcham is also apparently realy good.
I hope you get to the bottom of your little one's allergy.
Feel free to PM me if you have questions
i know what you're going through. :hugs:
I paid for my first one. DS saw Dr Humphrey (Caulfield is his private clinic i believe) and then the hospital's push to get us an urgent appointment (as we were scheduled to travel overseas in 10 days and DD had been hospitalised with an anaphylactic reaction), we ended up also seeing him at Royal Children's once we got back.
Good Luck!
Hi,
I work in pathology and where I work (when I am not on maternity leave) I perform skin prick allergy tests.
All you need to do is ask your GP to write you a pathology referal to your local pathology phone them once you have the form they will tell you what they require you to do before you have the test performed (for instance if you had a rash and you were applying a cream they will tell you how long before the test you need to cease applying it) make an appointment and you will have a good idea there and then on the day of the test what allergies may be present, as thre will be raised areas resembling a mozzie bite. A report will then be sent to your GP after a pathologist had studied the findings. The skin prick tests that each pathology company test for may vary but it is also a start to the process of ellimination.... Good luck

Allergy tests are usually done through referals as mentioned by everyone else above. Then your bubs has a skin prick test done to determine what the allergy may be.
Intolerances are a lot more difficult to determine, I've found that the best way of having someone help you figure them out is by seeing a naturopath. Most GP's and Dr.s don't believe in intolerances.
Good luck.
Mrs Little & Son.
