View Full Version : Children who HATE being in prams!
Am I the only one who has a child who will NOT sit in a pram???
It seems everywhere I go, there are all these well behaved children, sitting beautifully in their prams as their parents do the shopping or take them for walks...
My DD has hated the pram from day 1 (too bad we bought a Bugaboo!) She'd scream the moment she was placed in it. I thought as she grew older, she'd get used to it, but at 18 months, there is still NO way I could get her to sit in a pram, without her screaming and trying to squirm her way out!
She is just such an active child! She never sits still! We joke that when she learnt to walk, she skipped the walking stage, and went straight to running.
I wish she was one of those children who would sit still in her pram whist shopping, instead of running riot through the supermarket aisles and getting herself lost in shopping centres! :hair:
What do others do with children like this?
No you're not the only one.
I am glad we got given a pram rather than buying one because it rarely got used, TBH I hate them too. I used a baby carrier until he was too big then he walked or while shopping sat in a trolley.

Can you just try holding her hand while she walks?
I find that if I occasionally do that, when DD wears out she will sit in the pram.
Once again Katie our DD's are way too alike. My DD also hates the pram and always has...and yep i also have a buggaboo.
Though lately i can get her to sit in the pram if i bribe her with a snack....something that takes a fair bit of time to eat like grapes, or apricot balls or apple pieces usually do the trick for a fair amount of time.
My DD never liked the pram much. She was not a good "shopper" but would tolerate a pram ride if we went to the park. I used the carrier a lot when she was little and then later she walked/I carried her if I really needed to go somewhere. Basically DH did our shopping together or I would go on my own and leave her home with DH on the weekend.
It gets a lot easier when they get a bit older and listen enough to know not to run off. My DD is really good now and will walk with me into the shops. I get her to hold onto the safety strap on the pram (while DS rides in comfort). We have had much more use out of the pram now with DS.

 Hi Rach, I too bribe her with snacks, it does work, until the snacks run out LOL...
I loved my carrier (baby bjorn) when DD was little, I carried her everywhere in it (maybe that's why she never wanted to be in the pram)... but she's way too heavy now to use it.
She's usually pretty good, she will hold my hand, until she sees one of those ride on toys, then she's off! LOL..
Glad i'm not the only one...

My first was brilliant in the pram (helped that she didn't crawl till one year and didn't walk till 19 months!). She is a really passive, people-pleaser. Now I have been bitten on the backside with a non-prammer! He never liked the pram, really (loved the sling). He's also a terrible shopper, so I just don't take him now (he's two). It's too painful! The best we can do is a quick duck in and out for essentials while he has a fruit bar or some grapes or something to distract him.
Bloody annoying, isn't it? I see all these mums out having coffee with kids in strollers and want to :banghead: Good thing he is cute!

My dd hates the pram now as well..i think its because she can walk and would prefer that.
I have tried just about everything to keep her in there but we end up carrying her.
My MIL has just bought her one of those child harness's..which im kinda a little bit..i dunno..feel a bit weird with my child on a leash..lol
I mean its not a leash its a unicorn backpack type thing (its really cute and you can get them from toys r us)..but i guess its beats carrying her around the shops while pushing an empty pram!
I haven't tried it yet..does anyone else use one?

LOL, you could be talking about my DD here! Seriously, I am always green with envy at the number of mums (and dads!) who are pushing around their DS/DD's, who are sitting so nicely in their pram/stroller.
DD runs amok at the shops (runs off, will not sit in the pram/trolley, knocks things of shelves, opens things, etc, etc) and I have ended up in tears on several occasions - hence, I do not take DD shopping anymore. It is not an enjoyable experience for either of us.
Laylasmumma, we have one of those poodle backpack/harness leads (I hate calling them leads but! :p) and DD drops to the ground and refuses to budge! She just loves to walk (and run!), with no assistance from anybody whatsoever! But I have seen many children wearing these, and they seem quite happy.
I feel that all the $$$ which I spent on the pram and stroller were such a waste for us :(, whereas I know many families find theirs an absolutely essential part of their day-to-day life.

DD has never liked the pram. We can only push her for very short spells or when she is asleep. We used our Ergo for her and the pram as a shopping trolly:p
ds (almost 3) has used a puppy back back from 2 y/o. He would fight and fuss in the pram - so we gave up. Used to carry him every where - he loves trolley rides though, and always asks to go in the trolleys when we get to the shops.
dd has been in the pram twice. She hates it - we use the sling or carry her around every where. I doubt that we'll get her in the pram at all now.
ahhhh i totally could have written that post word for word... sounds just like my ds will sit in the pram quiet for about mmmmm 2 mins then unless there is food forget it!!! he doesnt wlak... he runs... hhahahhaa and damn those ppl who put those rides in shopping centres hehehhe i do shopping at night now when ds is asleep and dh is home. soooo much eaiser hahahaha another very very very active bubba here.. :)
