Hi ladies,

I am soon to have 2nd bub (I am 37 weeks and 2 days) and have a pregnancy pelvic conditon (SPD) which has me on crutches , unable to lift toddler and moderate pain most of the time. (Can get really bad but generally can just about manage it). My Obsteo has suggested inducing me at 38.5 weeks and on a bad pain day I agreed thinking that seeing as the baby's head is engaged it could be putting pressure on my pelvis an the longer the baby stays inside me the more damage it could do to my pelvis.
I have since read up a bit on being induced and dont really like the sound of it (higher C Sections, baby not being fully developed, more pain etc) and wondered if anyone else out there has any suggestions. My hubby is keen for me to have baby asap as he is away on business shortly after the birth for 2 months and if I had the induction on the agreed date then I would have him home with me for a week after the birth guaranteed. (I have no family here and am new to Brissy so not much other support really).
My last birth was natural (and at 38.5 weeks) and I was very keen to replicate that but i am very confused an I dont want a clinical birth that is more painful than it needs to be or an unnecessary C Section.
After reading what I have written i am already thinking about moving the induction week back to 39.5 weeks knowing that I can cancel if I want to......
Please help!

Thanks

Not sure if I can be much help here, but I know I would avoid being (medically) induced at all costs due to the increased intensity of the labour - I don't know how that could be good for your SPD. Hopefully you will go early again, or you might consider something more gentle/natural like acupuncture and raspberry leaf tea (if not already taking it).

:fingerscrossed: for you!

:iagree:

I think your reseacrh says it all really...
Can you seek out some alternative therapies, hypnosis, acupuncture, naturopath etc?
I see a wonderful wonderful acupuncturist, they really can work wonders.....

If it risks you damage I would let them induce you.

Risks are around for everything in life.

Have you seen an osteopath? I suffer from severe SPD and with the help of regular osteopath appointments I am able to manage. I was at the stage of needing a wheelchair at one point about 5 weeks ago - now I am able to walk fairly normally with minimal pain, provided I don't overdo it.

Personally, I would avoid induction, particularly as you are keen for a natural labour.

Although you are in real pain now, the likelihood of lasting pain/damage from SPD is very rare, provided you are very careful.

O you poor thing! You sound like you are having an awful time. :hugs:

Personally I really don't agree with induction, but I do also understand how difficult it can be to be incredibly uncomfortable in late pregnancy, I think if I were you I'd play it by ear, simply try to get through as best I could, and try to keep bub in as long as possible.

Alll the best with it, not a fun situation to be in.

I'd check out the acupuncture /alternative medicine routes. I have heard that they can do acupuncture to bring on labour. So maybe ring and ask.
