Lately Skye has been going without nappies throughout the day (only has them when we're out and about and when she has her naps) and she has been copying Hayley going to the potty (Hayley uses the toilet and the potty sometimes aswell). Do you think I should start potty training her? She has sat on the potty a few times but hasn't actually done anything on it yet. She is 20 months. I have also sat her on the toilet with the baby toilet seat but she doesn't like it.
Do you think she is ready? Hayley was just over 2 years old when she started to use the potty and then 3 when she went to the toilet on her own.

Anyone? :o
Hi,
Hard to say if she's ready or not. I'd probably just try it and see how she goes.
My 2 year old was the same. He also wouldn't sit on the Toilet with the baby seat on it and the first few times, I sat him on the potty nothing happened but I just continued and eventually he got the hang of it.
He's now just over 2 (turned 2 in nov) and is completely dry during the day and only in nappies during the night.
just sit her on the potty occasionally and if she makes somehting, make a big deal out of it and if not, say it doesn't matter, next time it will work (or something like that) see soon will figure it out.
And you already have her w/o nappies during the day, so I'd say it's just a matter of time until she will be fine.

I sat her on the potty yesterday cos I saw that she was about to do a poo (she wasn't wearing a nappy) but she was a bit unsure. She just stood there and only a little bit came out. She was a bit constipated so I put a nappy on her instead, but I always tell her shes a good girl or a clever girl if she sits on the potty, even if nothing happens.
I will keep trying.
That's ok, my son wasn't fond of the potty in the beginning either.
It's good that you praise her, even if nothing happens. That's what matters.
I'm sure, she will get the hang of it, don't stress, she's not even 2 yet. Just keep trying, when you see that it's too stressful for you and her, then just leave it for a bit and try it again about 1 week later. I did that with my 2 year old as well and it was better than before.
I also just let the potty in the lounge room, near the TV, so when he was watching something, he sometimes just sat on it and without him realizing what happens, he did a wee in it.
Or give her a book to read, that will distract her from the actual business as well :)

It too Hayley a few months to get the hang of it so I'm expecting the same with Skye, I just hope shes potty trained in the day when the baby comes.
