DD2 has started unclipping herself especially on long drives.

I give her toys to play with, food, paper & pen to write on....anything to keep her happy & content BUT she still unclips herself.

Does anyone know if there is a safety thing to put on top of it so her little fingers can't access the clip, kind of like the plastic safety locks you put on house door handles (which we have)?????

I've tried Spotlight as they have a lot of baby safety stuff but no luck. Also went to Baby Galore in Parkwood (GC) & she said no such thing exists which I find very hard to believe.

Anyone.....:fingerscrossed:

You dont say how old she is or what belt? The carseat belt or the car seatbelt?

I can only think you are talking about the belt in the car (not childs carseat) in that case i think she would be 3 or 4? Old enough for a punishment of having a fav toy taken away?

are you crafty? could you make something to go around the belt at the clipping in part?

OMG thats young to be doing that! Iron woman :p

can you turn the straps around at the back so they come down back to front and then turn the thing she is unclipping the other way around?

thats not great if you need to get her out in a hurry but sure better than her unclipping it! My nearly2 yr old squishes his arms through and then struggles with all his might like hes trying to stand up

Thanks for the advice, i'll check it out tomorrow to see if I can do that.

She's only a little girl & started doing it when she was 1.5yrs old just for kicks but then stopped.

Now she's started doing it again & on a very regular basis. We've stopped the car several times or when there's been no pull-over area on the motorway, i've had to unclip, reach back & clip her back up.

Creative little creatures they are.

where i am in Newcastle we have a kidsafe store and they sell special Little dobeywhakers(hehe) that clip over the 5 point harness to stop them from being able to unclip it!

There's a little gadget called a "Hurphy Durphy" that I've seen advertised. It goes over the seatbelt clip so I think it should do for the carseat clip too. It's heavy duty velcro so it's pretty quick to get off in an emergency.

Here's the link. Hope it helps you.

Wow! I'd probably be writing to the manufacturers and telling them - they need to fix their buckles if a child that young has the strength to undo them. They should be harder to undo - especially from the child's position.

The fact those other products are available shows they aren't adequate enough in the first place.

When my son was 5yr old he could undo and do up his 0-18kg carseat. He couldnt do it before that. We know because he used to try and it would make him cranky. He did this as "helping", though, and only when we were trying to do it up or undo it!

I would be so shocked if my nearly2yr old undid that same buckle!

What brand carseat is it?

Thanks for the website mumoftwoboys2005, i'll get onto that today.

Brand is Mothers Choice but she's done it in other toddlers carseats also.

I appreciate all your help & concerns.

This has come up before, and some have been told to take all the straps off and then put them back on so the button in towards the kid instead of away from.
