View Full Version : How was your bub after 1st needles?
My little girl had her first needles today at 9am and she was great. She only cried for about 30 seconds, and was easily comforted by a cuddle.
However, this afternoon she has had a few periods of non stop screaming! It's like I'm cutting her leg off or something! She took 1 hour to drink 90mls of milk. She was just screaming on and off. She has cried herself to sleep now. I gave her some panadol.
Was just wondering how everyone else's bub reacted after their first needles? I can't remember how Emily was as she is 4 now and back then they only had 1 needle and the drops, now it is just 2 needles, one in each leg.
She was fine for 4 whole hours, now she just screams!
I don't know what to do!

My DD was like yours, for about 4 days!....I just did the panadol thing but if you are really concerned don't hesitate to take her to a 24 hr clinic. I hope she feels better soon.
Thanks misskitty.
She has always been a horrid feeder but this afternoon has been hell!
I really hope it doesn't last 4 days!

Keep an eye on her temp too.
The Dr told me its normal for bubs to get a bit cranky but if the temp goes above 38 then thats when its time to worry.
Thanks Hollie.
Hey have you checked out the Campbelltown mama's thread? I just noticed you're from c/town too.
DS was like that for a few days. But he became less and less miserable each day. I don't know how your little one is with sleeping through the night, but experience says you can now look forward to your little one sleeping through the night from here on in.
Don't know why immunisation has that effect. But i'm not complaining.
I don't know if immunsations are more distress to our little ones or ourselves.
I'd just keep up with the panadol, unless you see sign of a fever, severe vomitting or rash.
The rest sounds very normal.

Constant screaming following vaccinations is what's known as an "adverse reaction" - so please report it to your doctor. :) Hope your little one feels better soon.
Thanks guys.
Lut, she has slept through from about 2 weeks old! No probs there, maybe she'll be up all night instead!
Queenie....she has settled for a while now(she is sleeping) but do you really think the crying is serious?!? I am worried now!:(

Liam was fine for the needles, screamed for a few hours in the afternoon. We took him to a 24 hour clinic because of his temp and he was fine.
We have the 4 monnths due this week :crying:

Kris - it's not that it's a serious problem, I feel bad now for making you worry!!! :o Sorry matey!!!
It's just that ANY reaction to vaccinations needs to be reported, so that they can keep an accurate record of how that particular vaccine affects bubba's. Most people don't report reactions unless they require hospitalisation, but even the slight reactions (like extended periods of inconsolable crying) need to be reported. Let's say (for a hypothetical, because I have no idea of actual figures) let's say 65% of babies vaccinated with xyz vaccine have the same reaction as Kailah, but none of the parents report it. If the pharmaceutical company doesn't know that there is a significant number of children reacting in this way, then they won't try to investigate whether they can change the vax somehow so that this reaction can be prevented.
(Am I explaining myself coherently?? I have a 3 week old, I'm getting 3 hours of sleep a night, so my work is not braining too good lately :p)
I didn't mean to make you worry, I'm sure your little darling is fine and will be fine - but I just wanted to point out that we all need to report any kind of "adverse reaction" (see, the wording of that phrase makes it sound really bad) so that the vaccine manufacturers can continue to improve their product and make it safer and more effective for all babies.

Both my boys were fine, they never even cried. Brooke on the other hand, she screamed non-stop for 7hrs, but was fine after that. By the time she went back for her 4mth needles they had changed over to Infanrix and she had no reaction at all to that.
I hope she settles down for you tonight. :hugs:

The doctor told me too to report any adverse reactions because they note down the batch number to see if that batch may have been dodgy and stop any other people getting sick.

Yep i agree with Queenie just letting your doctor know Kris gets them to keep an eye out just in case.
Its normal for them to be grumpy etc after so try not to stress you may even find she sleeps a little more.
The leg thing is normal btw its because ( not sure which side for you but the one that only had one in the leg ) which is the one that causes grief with pain thats why it goes in alone & you may find it swells a little so use a cold facewasher to soothe it. Try also to be gentle for a few days with her legs also as they will be tender & use panadol as needed.
Ummm i think thats it but if i remember anything else i shall come back & PM you :D
Hope K feels better soon :hugs:
