Fibroid Polypoid Lesion in 16 mth old - anyone else had this???

Hi I took my DD to the docs on monday as she has this lump on the inside of her lower lip, to be honest I thought it was an ulcer and wasnt expecting what came next. The doctor said it was a Fibriod Polypoid Lesion and would need to be surgically removed by an oral surgeon asap as it will only get bigger and start to really annoy her. He also went on to say that she would need to have it biopsied as these lesions can be malignant, although he did say he would be certain this is not the case for her as it looked alright and he said the malignant ones tend to look really "ugly" has anyone else had this experience? I feel a little freaked out by it all and I am soo sad my little girl has to endure another surgery (she had grommets 4 months ago).

I know it is hard not to worry, especially when it comes to your children...but try not to.

Most of the time (almost ALL of the time) these lesions develop due to trauma. So, for example, if your DD had bitten her lip, or had a tooth rub on it etc, then the fibroma/granuloma will develop.

It needs to be taken off by a surgeon
(a) like your GP said, to have it biopsied
(b) to remove all of it JUST in case there is any doubt about its benign nature, and
(c) because it is a difficult (and highly vascular, ie likely to bleed) spot to remove things from and a surgeon is the best one to do this.

Try not to worry about it. Difficult, I know, but it will almost certainly be just fine. :hugs:

Thanks for you info!! We have an appointment on Monday 19th to see the surgeon and I will be glad to put it all behind us!!
