Hi all!
Im new here and not yet TTC, although very much want to. Im 37 and dh is 44. Having trouble convincing dh that we should start asap - he wants to focus on getting a bigger place (we're in a unit - no room for us let alone bubs!) first. So he thinks Ill miraculously get pg straight away and then we'll be under heaps of pressure in the househunt.

I take his point but Im worried about the age factor. Im worried that if we don't start till Im nearly 38 and then we run into problems, once you factor in investigations etc, we'll be up against the wire.

Never been pg before. I do seem to ovulate with a 26ish day cycle and good cm etc, plus FSH has been 6ish so that's pretty good. But I know FSH isnt that reliable ...

So my Q is do you think an ovarian reserve test is a good idea? Supposedly AMH and ovary ultrasound to show the no of follies at the start of your cycle - gives the best indication of how much time you have. Im thinking if its good then I can relax and we can start after moving at the end of the year, and if its bad, at least Ill have some evidence to convinve dh, apart from my hunches.

Ive seen that Repromed offer this but they are in Adelaide. Has anyone had it done via their GP - esp in sydney?? Do you have to go to an IVF clinic - and would they even see me given we are not yet even TTC

Thanks for any help!!

Hi Anemone,

I'm not sure what Ovarian reserve is but interested in knowing!.
As with TTC. I honestly thought It would happen instantly! 6months and still going. Even younger healthy couples can take up to 12months so if I had my time again, I'd say I wish we started a little bit early. Then again it all depends on when you are both ready. My girlfriend at 39yrs got pregant on her first cycle!...my other friend at 36yrs took 4months.
My opinion is I would start trying as it can take time - Best wishes & welcome to the TTC - baby dust to you :)

Thanks blossum, will let you know once I get more info. But Im thinking maybe hold offon the ov reserve thing cos it seems so hard to organise logistically (to time day off work, flighjts to adelaide etc with day 3-5 of cycle), and try herbs and naturopathy to boost things naturally and at the same time keep on at dh!

heaps of babydust to you too.

hello i am from adelaide and go to repromed.

the egg timer(ovarian reserve test) was developed by one of the fs at repromed but i would have thought that other clinics and states did it aswell.
i think they do it on day 5 of your cycle, well mine was done then, it is just a vaginal ultrasound for memory.
have u had a blood test done to check that u do ovulate?

Hi heather, thanks for that.
I had an ultrasound a year ago that showed follicles but no dominant one. It was just before I should have ovulated that cycle so I was a bit disappointed. But I have had 2 progestrone blood tests that showed I did ovulate in those cycles (different cycles from when I had the ultrasound).

Maybe I will look the into the tests locally in a few months once I know what's going on with looking for a place and how long that might be.
