Hello. I'm looking for information about birthing centre's. I'm closest to Gold Coast so I've rang to make an appointment. However, I wanted to know if anyone knew what was classed as 'high risk'. This will be my 2nd babe. My first was a home waterbirth. I am currently 8.5wks thanks to IVF. Is IVF considered High Risk? I also have a subchoronic hematoma or blood clot in my utereus surrounding the baby. These usually go away during pregnancy and you are then classed as normal/no risk. I am overweight as well. I am 34 at the moment but will be 35 on due date. Is there an age cap? What are my chances do you think? I get that at the moment I'm 'Highrisk' but am hoping i won't be in a few weeks or more.

Also does it cost anything?

Thanks
Sharon

I would give them a call, they ask you about 100 questions relating your history, health and pregnancy so far etc, then they determine whether or not they can take you. Every pregnancy is different, I dont really know what they classify as high risk, but Im pretty sure if you've already had a C-Section they will not, if you have had any serious pregnancies problems in the past such as premature babies or stillbirth they may not allow you either.

Have you got their number to call them? I had DS2 at the Birth Centre and cannot recommend them enough, I really hope you can get in.

Hi there, I'm not entirely sure of what all the "High Risk" factors are for the bc on the Gold Coast. Hopefully I can shed some light on the weight issue though as it was my concern as well prior to being accepted. I'm classed as "overweight" taken by the BMI however I don't look extremely overweight & I am under 100 kgs. From what one of the midwives mentioned I think a weight of around 100 kgs is the cut off & that is only because of the restrictions with using equipment & beds etc. I'm only short at 163 cm & at 30 weeks I'm at 85.6 kgs, 5 kg of which is what I've put on during the pregnancy.

With everything else you mentioned I am really not sure if you'll be given a spot or not. I would definitely try though as it never hurts to try that's for sure.

Oh also there is no cost involved either as it is midwifery care but still hospital based.

Good luck & I wish you all the best during your pregnancy. Please let us know how you go with the bc.
