View Full Version : Menstrual Cup and IUD. (and something else for Cuppers!)
I don't have either, but a friend has piqued my interest...
She said she won't have an IUD because she likes her cup too much.
O_O
Apparently the IUD can come out.... or something
Does this REALLY happen?! I was thinking of getting and IUD after this bub until hubby gets the 'operation' :p but I'd also like a cup.
On a side note, does anyone use a cup without their husbands/partners knowing   My husband finds the thought revolting but I want one anyway :p I know he doesn't have a big say, but I'd rather he lived in the merry ol' world and doesn't say anything if I were to get one :p

I've never heard of the IUD thing, but I'm not interested in contraception for myself, so I haven't looked into it.
On the hubby front, unless you DTD during your monthly flow, he doesn't really have to know. And if you do, a discreet trip to the loo beforehand would probably do the trick.
My hubby wholeheartedly embraced the idea, so I've never had to deal. I don't think I'd've cared one way or another, though.

Just did a quick search (google is my friend!) and it seems there is quite a bit on the subject of cups and IUD's, but most link back to other forums, which i don't think can be posted here.
Try typing "IUD+menstrual cup" into your search engine.
Seems loads of women are using both.
I read somewhere that the IUD can be accidentally pulled out due to the suction of the cup.
I went back to where I got the IUD put in and asked them, they were stumped so went off to do a bit of research for me and got back to me saying that as long as I know where my IUD strings are that it'll be fine and they'd never heard of the cups being a problem. I guess the main thing is not to pull the strings out accidentally.
I try to break the suction before pulling the cup out too, just to be on the safe side.
I've heard mixed reports but I like them both too much to give one up

If your strings are short I don't think you shouldn't have problems with the IUD being sucked out with your cup. I think the main problem would be accidentally grabbing the strings when you take your cup out.
I have the IUD & use a cup with no dramas at all, I asked the OB/GYN who put it in & she said no probs.
As far as hubby, can you tell him how much better for your body a cup is? My DH couldn't care less what I use as long as it's safe & I'm happy with it. Anyway, it's not like he sees me attend to business when AF is visiting so he doesn't have to deal with it
