Hi everyone - please don't laugh at my stupid question - given that i have an 8 year old....

What does conjunctavitis look like? My 3 week old has woken up this morning with a sticky eye and to coin my sons expression 'she looks like she has snot around her eye'
Could this be conjunctavitis? Or just a sticky eye? Should i just clean it with a cotton ball and water and see how it goes?

Again - sorry for the dumb question... Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Sharon

My bub had that and i was told it was normal - so long as its just the snot stuff and the eye its self looks ok.
Breastmilk helps - just squirt some in (if breastfeeding) or some cooled boiled water.
It cleared up for my bub after a while i can't remember how long she had it though. First couple of months i think

Conjunctivitis causes the eye to become red and sore looking. Little babies often in the first year get blocked tear ducts which can cause some gunk. how does the eye itself look?
I'd gently wipe it with breastmilk or cooled boiled water.

Hi Sharon  Eloise also had this a few weeks ago & from what I've heard it is completely normal & you can just wipe them with cool boiled water from the inside of the eye out, just be sure to use a fresh cotton ball or cloth for each eye & putting some breastmilk on them will also help. This is what I did for Ella & within 2 days it had cleared up. If you find that it is smelly or Liv's eyes look funny or that it doesn't clear quickly then I would take her to the Dr to have it checked out, just to be on the safe side. Good luck, hope that helps some :hugs:

Ciao,
Brooke.

Yep Jye had this, it went away for a few days and then came back again. I was squirting breastmilk in it every feed.

Yep Sean had this at about the same age too. I just wiped the eye with a cotton wool pad when he had his bath and would then squirt a little breast milk in it.

 worked a treat!!!!
