YOUR CHILD ON TV
Do you want to be part of a very special television project
and have a remarkable record of your child’s early years?

We are making a documentary series for ABC Television about Australian children.

The series is being made by Film Australia for the ABC in conjunction with the most exciting ongoing study of Australian children ever undertaken. 10,000 children over a seven-year period are taking part right around Australia, making it the single largest national study of children ever in this country.

The study is known as “Growing Up in Australia — The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children” (LSAC) and is initiated and funded by the Australian Government Department of Family and Community Services and is being managed by the Australian Institute of Family Studies.

The documentary will follow just eight children, their families and carers as they participate in the study. We will film them for short periods every 18 months to record the events that shape their early years.

Film Australia is an Australian Government-owned company whose mission is to create an audio-visual record of Australian life. The producers of the series are women with a lot of experience telling intimate stories for television with great care and sensitivity.
We are very keen to tell stories of Australian children from all parts of our community and from different family situations.

We are looking for:
children aged 6 to 12 months
children aged 4 to 5 years
an expectant mother due between mid August and the end of September 2005.

If you are interested in taking part, you can contact the television production office by phoning 1800 077 471 or go to our website at www.filmaust.com.au/growingup for more information and an application form that you can download and send to us or fill in online.

Applications MUST be received BEFORE 29 July 2005

All applications will be acknowledged. Shortlisted families will be interviewed in August–September.

I got a call today from them...

they asked a whole heap of questions, mainly ones that i had already answered on the form.

I wont hear anything for another 3-4 weeks, they will call back and tell me if we are on the shortlist.

I too got a phonecall today. They asked me more about the area I live in as they had no idea Humpty Doo existed. How big our community was and how far it was from Darwin. What kind of resources are available locally and whether we were doing anything in August/September (apart from DH's Birthday nothing major). I'll also get a phonecall in a few weeks. Fingers crossed girls :D
