The last few days 15 month old DD has started being scared of certain things around the house...it started at my mums when the cuckoo clock (she's seen it before) went off,and then so did DD!
Next at my house,I have,or should I say had, thanks to DH cutting it down, a porcelain doll sitting on a chair hanging from the ceiling,DH accidently knocked it,it started to swing and DD got scared and cried.
Then,I had taken off the cover on the kitchen exhaust fan to clean...when DD spotted the hole in the ceiling she got scared and cried again! It takes a fair while to console her each time, and she's seen all these things before.
Now I'm assuming this is just a phase she is going through, and I guess it will eventually stop? Anyone elses toddlers done this around this age?

Yes! Andrew goes through little stages of some things scaring him. Sometimes its a new toy (or an old one) but it usually passes after a few days.

A few weeks ago he slipped on some spilt milk in the kitchen and bumped his head on the floor - for a few days afterwards, any time he had a spillage, he would freeze...wouldn't move a muscle and cried for me to get him. He got over it after a few days.

I think it must just be a developmental, stagey thing. Greater awareness of the world, and all that sort of thing.

I think you're doing the right thing - lots of comfort and hugs and reassurance. :)

Yes I think your right about the greater awareness of the world thing...I guess because they are so much more alert now at this age and taking everything in.
Tonight DD got scared about a book that has buttons to press that makes animal noises...lol, I had to laugh though,(mean mummy!) she shot across the room so fast and the look on her face was priceless!

DD is all of a sudden scared of our vacuum cleaner. And of my Dad (lmao!). She never USED to be scared of the vacuum or my Dad, but all of a sudden they're both scary for DD. I understand the vacuum - it makes loud noises and sucks stuff up. I guess I understand my father too (he's a beardy weirdy!)
