Hi,
If you do a search in this section there a few links to articles outlining the risks associated with the introduction of formula.
Firstly it is not a sterile preperation and contains contaminated particles
It dosnt contain enzymes or hormones to help your babies brain develop
It increases the risks of developing diseases like type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, ovarian cancer, pre menopausal breastcancer.
It dosnt help your baby to develop its immunity.
This (http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/milk/infant-formula.html#Walker) will give you a better understanding what the risks are.

from what i know....most formulas are cows milk based, which is one of the most common allergies for kids next to soy, soy is another alternative to cows milk formula. basically your child isn't a calf so cows milk isnt designed for them.
i am sure there is more scientifc evidence out there than my ramble:)
if you have allergies in the family you should contact the makers of the formula and discuss it with them. they have people trained who know all the risks involved. Don't forget that some people don't have the pleasure of being able to breast feed therefore they don't have a choice but to use formula. There are many different types available and if you need to use one you will no doubt find one that suits. You can also get special formulas prescribed by your doctor if necessary. Good luck.

thanks guys :)
i am intending to give Bf'ing a go.
does anyone know about a formula (i think its nan brand) for infnts at risk of allergies i cant remmber what its called now i saw it when i got ds's a few days ago .
Nan HA is recommended for children with allergies or have a family history of them. however it is not suitable for children with cows milk allergy, as it is based on that. If you do have a strong family history of allergies then you can get a special formula which our paed allergist told us about. Think it may need to be prescribed. Breastfeeding ended up working so I didn't bother and just used Nan HA when we started some formula feeds at 11 months. BTW our first DS has allergies and this is what I was told when enquiring about DS2.
