I'm currently 9 days overdue with #2 and of course they are now pushing for me to have an induction. The hospital policy is 7 - 10 days overdue and I've told them I'm not going to until at least 14 days, I really just want to give my body the opportunity to get there on it's own. I don't want to be silly about it though.

My blood pressure is good, the baby appears to be fine although movements are a little slow (only really active when I stop at night).

I really just need some reassurance I'm doing the right thing . It's really hard to go against what the medical professionals are telling me to do.

What would you have done :confused:

I think you did the right thing, you are not even overdue until after 14 days anyway as that is considered full term. Just get them to keep checking on the baby and placenta every couple of days and if all is well, keep waiting. My midwife supported the birth of a 44 weeker and there were no problems with the baby or the mother at all.

I admire your strength in standing up to the "experts" I know how hard that can be:yelclap:

If you or bubs are under no stress, then there is no need for induction. Listen to your body, you have done the right thing :)

Thanks ladies :)

I didn't think it would feel this hard to go against them, but I don't want a bad outcome for the pregnancy either, I would obviously prefer to be induced or even have a CS rather than lose the precious bubs.

You are not 'over' until 42 weeks, if you and bub are fine, then you are definitely doing the right thing :)

Even after 42 weeks, you can opt for monitoring rather than routine induction...

If you wanted to, sometimes a trip to an osteopath can help, your pelvis may be a little out of alignment, and may just need a tweak to help bub line up perfectly, and put things in motion.

Even so, i always feel pretty good after my appointments... :)

:iagree:

I don't think you've done anything wrong at all. I'd do that too.

i can only say that I've had one induction for being overdue (with my first) and then refused induction for my second - both babies ended up being born 10 days overdue. Both fine.

I was ecstatic with the 2nd that I was doing it on my own and it was sooo much better as I did a lot of it at home, and could move around, wasn't hooked up etc. (I ended up with emergency c-section but that was nothing whatsoever to do with being overdue).

there is, statistically, a very slightly increased risk after 10 days.

I would be comfortable going to 14 days and re-evaluating at that time.

But hte thing is - the vast majority of women have gone into labour by then anyway (like 95%) so it's probably all just a stress about nothing.

Good luck!

(and btw - i did everything you could possibly imagine to try and bring on labour not including castor oil and nothign worked - just happened when my body was ready)

a normal pg is 38-42 weeks long. your absolutely doing the right thing. babies are different and grow at different speeds. there is more risk in being induced then not being. the hospitals are just trying to cover there bottems. if they push you just ask them to PROVE why you NEED inducing!! your doing the right thing. i have been there and they try to make you doubt yourself....your doing a good thing

Thanks soooo much!

Really needed that encouragement! I've had a really big couple of weeks, my mum died very suddenly at 55yrs at 4 days before my EDD, I found her and it was very stressful we only had her funeral on Wednesday. Maybe stress has kept this little bundle in a bit longer I just need to somehow let my body know it's okay to happen now.

Thanks again.

So sorry for your loss :hugs: How big was your first baby? My DS was 10 days overdue and I was induced (first timer didn't realise that I had a choice) - he was 10lb 4oz!! and overcooked. The nasty part of induction is the drip. I chose to be induced with my 2nd as ultrasound was predicting another whopper - but had gel and ARM only - made them leave me to start contracting on my own which was so much better. So even if you do get induced (its really not that bad) try to put off the drip and walk around etc to get things going. Another thought - My friend just had her second 4 weeks ago, 11 days late and booked for an induction on day 14 - she went and got a pedicure - the foot massage did the trick and her waters broke about 4 hours later. Don't know conclusively if this really worked but 9 months pregnant you could use the pampering and when you do have bubs you'll have pretty toenails :) I know when I go for number 3 I'll be trying it before having a medical induction!! All the best, and just think this time next week you'll have your babe in your arms:flowerz:

my little brother was born nearly 3weeks over due and apart from being a little over cooked and wrinkly he was fine!
if your feeling fine and the bubs is good just go with how you feel!
try all the old wive tales to get you started first!
