My family and I live in Joondalup but will be moving somewhere in the next few months. My husband will be working in/around Perth so would be happy to be 40 minutes either side of the city. Anywhere from Joondalup to Mandurah really. So where do you live and is it a nice place for a young family?

Hi Tash ..
I just moved away from Perth but we lived at Ellenbrook. It was lovely. Its a fairly new area in the Swan Valley (near all the wineries). It is also only about 10 mins from Joondalup. They were building a Westfield out there too I think. I would highly recommend it for families. There are lots of parks and bike tracks.
Good Luck with your move :)

Hi,
I just moved from Perth to VIC, but I was born & bred in perth, and before i left, I had built a house in Byford. THe Tonkin Highway extension ends at Byford. I used to drive from Byford to Osborne Park everyday for work and it took 40 mins up the freeway.
Byford is a real country setting with loads of young families and a low crime rate. Its got a liad back feeling like everyday is Sunday or something and I loved that about it. Excellent schools & childcare (from what I hear). There are a lot of new estates there which are beautiful. Byford is at the foot of the hills with Jarrahdale/Serpentine only 10mins down the road. Sounds far I know but its not with the Tonkin Hwy & freeway close by. Only takes 25min to reach rockingham beach too.:flowerz:
Are you considering inner suburbs? Or prefer the outers?
I live in East Vic park which is very central I love it. I find the outer suburbs to 'hilly' and I love being able to go for long walks alond the foreshore. Even (pre-baby) walking all the way into the city on occassion (40 mins walk). Everything is within 10 mins wlking distance; places to eat, shopping centres, malls, video stores ect.
We are a young family and we just love it here.
:iagree: East Vic Park is awesome, I used to live there. If you do look there though, I would say, find out which part is the 'nice' part, as I found the bit with lots of high rise apartments to be a bit dodgy. You also have to be prepared to kick hobos of your front verandah on occasion!
I grew up in Kingsley/Greenwood, I found it was a great place to live, I havent lived there in over 10 years so I'm not too sure what its like there now. If we were to move back to Perth I probably would go northern suburbs, preferably Kingsley, Greenwood, Duncraig, Padbury, Carine, type area...
It really depends on how much you are willing to spend too!

i live in baldivis (use to be in yokine), but have been here since july.
There are lots of families this way, and lots of little parks with bbqs and stuff.
Its literally straight onto the kwinana freeway, takes 30 mins to get t perth minus the traffic.
Only 15 mins to rockingham and the beach there, which has a big park for kids, and the beach is quite calm a lot of the time, great for kids.

Hi, I live sor in Hammond Park and the surrounding suburbs are Success, Atwell, Aubin Grove. They are all very family based, so many young families around.
If you happen to move nearby I would love to catch up as I also have two boys born the same month and years as your boys and am always trying to find things to amuse them so new playdates would be great.
Cheers,
Anna
I've been thinking about this too... DH and I are thinking of moving back to perth (we lived there for 3 years, 4 years ago)
I lived SOR last time - freo & palmyra and I LOVE it there. DH wants to live NOR next time. My FIL is in Kingsley.. that seems nice. We are thinking of somewhere kinda in that area but closer to the coast.. Sorrento maybe?
NOR NOR NOR NOR!!!Have lived South of River in two different suburbs, but NOR is better for us!(there's quite a bit NOR and SOR divide which I was really intrigued about)
where depends on how much $$, character and how near the beach you want to live.
the best advice I ever got was from an estate agent to go to a local deli/shop in any area you're considering and have a look at the type of people there! (not politically correct or whatever the word is, but well worth a try)
have a look also at I think the Perthnow website who had a list of % break-ins in the area in the past year. could be Perthnow, but google it and it will show up I'm sure.
Hope that helps!
