Hi, we have just come home from hospital after my 15-month old DS suffered his third febrile convulsion (seizure) in 5 months. These are caused by a sudden spike in temperature. They are very scary to watch, but fortunately research says there is typically no long term damage and they grow out of the fits by 5-6 years old.
He had obvious illnesses the first two times round (first time was a flu virus and second time was gastro), however this time he went to bed a happy little boy and woke about 6 hours later with this fit. He didn't have a really high temp (38.6 degrees) so it goes to show that the temp doesn't have to be really high for this to happen, but it is the rate at which the temp rises which sets it off.
I was wondering if there was anyone else out there who has gone through this? While doctors can be reassuring, it doesn't make it any easier to cope with.
Thanks for reading my story and I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year.
