Cough Syrup/Suppressant?

Hi All,

Just wondering if any one knows of something that works well at easing coughs in babies? Ejs got a nasty cough with a cold she has at present and her throat seems sore also. My doc said (last cold) that there was nothing you could really do for a cough in a baby to ease it - but was wondering if any one here has any ideas on natural remedies or other products that would ease it?

When my bub has had a cold I lube him up with baby vick's balsam stuff and panadol if he feels a bit hot. The vick's seems to let him breath better and get some sleep. From memory it clears my throat and nose when I use it too.
Sorry - not natural remedy - maybe try eucalyptus on her pj's or sheets.

She has had some panadol cause she was feeling like she had a bit of a temp and it has helped the cough actually maybe cause of the throat being less sore? she hasnt coughed really since i gave it to her. Ive been giving her some chemist brand cold and allergy stuff to help dry the nose and eyes (cause they're watering) which seems to work well though it doesnt completely stop the nose running but at least she can breathe better.

Ill have to get some of the vicks stuff and try it also.

We use Euky bear chest rub and it works a treat! :thumbsup:

If shes really stuffy, try raising her mattress up a little so she can breath easier, I usually just put an old pillow under the cot mattress.

Other than that, a vaporiser in her room or a bowl of hot water under the cot. I put some eucalyptus oil into the bowl of water, rather than on the sheets.

You can get another similar product to the vicks stuff, I think it's called euky bear rub...something like that...I'm pretty sure DH's cousin used it on her bub when she was about 6mths old without a prob. May be a little cheaper too.

Poor Ej, coughs are bad in the littlies because there is not much you can do for them..

I use panadol and a vapouriser with the liquid eucylypt stuff in the water.

Well her cough is still about and I have it also - We've both lost our voices as well:( Got her some vicks baby balsam and off to get a vapouriser this morning after she had a horrible night last night coughing - even went and stood in the bathroom with her whiile running a hot shower just to get some steam to see if it would help.
