Hi! i'm just wondering what age children start to enjoy counting games and start to count...

My DD is 2 and enjoys counting with me i say 1, she says 1, i say 2 she says 2.. etc.. she can go as high as her attention span for the moment will allow lol..

recently she has started to count to 5 on her own. every now and again she gets a number wrong, or needs prompting with the numbers..

does anyone know any good games i can play with bubs that will interest her? she enjoys songs such as incy wincy spider- she can do the actions, she loves doing them on her own and can sing on her own..

I have some new wiggles and other nursery rhymes to play little games with her.. but i need soem more...

My DD was 2 in August and loves to count!

We have 9 stairs out the front and we count them every time we walk up or down. We've done this since she could walk down them holding our hand and she loves it. These days she'll often start counting without us.

There are heaps of counting songs - 1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive; 3 little ducks (or however many you want to do); same deal with the speckled frogs (3 little speckled frogs sat on a speckled log...); Dr Knickerbocker... they're just a few off the top of my head that my DD loves.

You can even just play counting games with normal toys - how many teddies are there etc. My DD loved to count Matchbox cars - now she counts them by herself. Get her to help setting the table - how many forks do we need? That kind of incidental learning is often more effective (and fun) than actually sitting down to learn IYKIWM.

Have fun!

Agreed with Mrs Potts.... we count everything and anything just throughout daily life.....

As such DD, also 2 in August, can count unprompted and uncorrected to 13 (odd number I know).... and however much further with adult acompaniment....

We count stairs, fingers and toes, anything really.... we also have foam numbers in the shower to try and get some recognition of the written numbers happening....
