I have been going to Oceanic WAterbabies with 17mth old since he was 6mths old..he loves it, they are very thorough and especially teach pool safety rather than actual swimming as of course babies cant really swim till they are older....its hard to get into but worth it so if you are interested get your name in asap

Most pools and health clubs run them (I got in touch with Zest and another through the last parenting expo). I decided to take DS to Club Sierra (health club in Mundaring) as it's closest to us, however, when my next bub is born, I'll be changing to Middle Swan as it is closer to mum and she can sit with the new bub rather than using a creche.

Mt son has been going to swimming lessons since he was 6months (we started out in Darwin), he loves the songs, and body awareness. I think there's basically two main programs Australia wide, but as far as I'm aware so long as you have an acredited instructor, then you'll be getting age appropriate lessons.

Hi i took Tahlia to swimming lessons when she was 5 months old at Ballajura Aquatic centre and she loved it, give them a call and see when they do it and how much etc as you live in ballajura so its handy for you. Goodluck im sure you both will love it.

I haven't taken Brion to lessons, however we have built up his awarenees through playing in my bro's pool, and showers, and his bath.

My SIL is a swimming instructor, and she says that the main focus of the lessons when they are really little ( 6 mnths) is to increase their awareness, and that they only start to teach them the fundamentals of swimming when they are around 1 yr. So because I have access to a pool etc, I am not going to worry about enrolling Brion til next Summer when he is 18mnths.

But apparently it's heaps of fun for both parents and kiddies! So I hope you both enjoy yourself!! Apparently State Swim centres are really good, and there's quite a few of them around. I definately found they were cheaper, and more flexible on payments.

I forgot to add - the main reason we do it is not for my son to actually learn how to swim - it's because he loves it so much, it's special mum and son time and it's my aqua aerobics for the week - I just carry round my 12kg weight in the pool - does wonders for the thighs!!!:p

I really wanted to get into this swimming school but unfortunately I got my butt into to gear too late...They take ages from (i think) 3mths to 6 years.....hmmm dont quote me on the exact age...But the thing is you have to start you baby before 9 months or they wont enroll you as it has to do with breathing tecniques they teach there....Grrrrr So I left it too late :( Hmmm not sure if I explained it very well...LOL...Anyway good luck and heres a link....

We have been doing swimming lesson at Thornlie Pools since Jade was about five months. APart from the fact that she loves it, I can see where the things they are having her do are leading as far as swimming skills are concerned. This is a State Swim run class, and I like thier methods. (eg teaching the baby to hold their breath instead of tricking them).

I hope you find what you are looking for.

I started Xavier when he was just over 6mths old at Altone Park, which is near you and when we moved further north I took him to Joondalup and now the Merriwa swim school is open we go there. The Joondalup and Merriwa ones are pools especially for teaching, no other swimmers are around.
I think the earlier you start your child into swimming lesson or water in general (other than the bath or shower) the better, my boy is just over 2 and he can kick, move his arms, jump into the water, go under, blow bubbles and climb out. They are always learning (we all are) so start them early. So by the time they understand they already know what to do.
