Hi all

My son was born at 36 weeks, he was very sick too....(not that you would know that now !!)
I am now 18 weeks pregnant and nervous about another premmie...

I am curious if others can tell me if they had a prem then didnt with next pregnancys, or did....

Is this something that i am prone to..?

Docs never give you much when you ask them...

Thanks

My sister had one very premmie baby (thanks to placenta previa - sp?). She had him at about 28 weeks  , thankfully he survived - he's now 10 and a really healthy boy - what a miracle. She had placenta previa in her second pregnancy too, but not as bad. Her second bub was also a bit prem, but no-where near as early as the first.

My daughter was born at 37 weeks, and although its only technically 3 weeks before the 'due' date she had a few problems too. (breathing problems, and she was a bit skinny - not a bad birthweight though!). So I can understand your concerns.

Dont lose hope on having a full-term baby... I have known women who have had one after having a premmie.

Just try not to stress too much (I know thats easy to say!).

Good Luck!

Hello,

I had pre-clampsia and the old emergency caeserian with my dd and she was born at 34 weeks.

17 months later I had my son and he was full term.

I don't know what caused you to have your son early but my doctor said to me that with the high blood pressure - eclampsia thing it is most common in the first pregnancy and it usually disappears in subsequent pregnancies.

A friend of mine had her first son at 24 1/2 weeks. He's a healthy one year old now :) but still a little behind in devlopment but is catching up really quickly. She fell pregnant 6 weeks after giving birth to her first son Jaxon. Joshua (2nd son) was born term with no complications or interventions and is perfectly healthy. My friend was worried about having another premmie and took it much easier the second time around.

Thanks for your replies

I forgot to mention that i had gestational diabetes which probably led to my sons early arrival....
I dont have my diabetes test till 24 weeks (in about 6 weeks)

I have my fingers crossed for no diabetes and a full term bub

Your stories have been reassuring

Thanks again

My son was born at 36 weeks, but was 7lb5oz, and came out with no problems. I had my daughter at 37 weeks, also very healthy. My sister also had both of hers at 37 weeks. I asked my doctor if this time around I'd go early, and he said hell had a greater chance of freezing over than me going to term. He said women who go early naturally, usually do so time and time again.

A sign I noticed with my daughter was that I had constant Braxton Hicks contractions from about 30 weeks. I had a show at 34 weeks, as I had had with my son, so I was expecting her when she came. You'll just know, if that makes any sense.

There is always a greater chance of having subsequent babies born premmie but not always. I had Lachie 6 weeks early, the twins 4 weeks which is almost condiered full term anyway for twins and Adele was 2 1/2 weeks.
My sister had her twins at 28 weeks then went 12 days over with her next child then a week early with her 4th then 9 weeks early with her last.
I hope you have a healthy pregnancy and rest up.

Although some women just can't carry a baby to term, each and every pregnancy is different. Just stay positive and keep you head up! Good luck! :)

Jessica was born by c-section at 39 weeks as I had pre-eclampsia. she was very healthy and her apgar scores were 9 at 1st minute and 10 - 5 mins later. the next day she was rushed to neo-natal as she had low blood sugar levels and was there for 12 days. as well she had a infection with a high fever. she's now 8 months old and the only problem she has a bad case of nappy rash caused by her teething (4 teeth are coming through all at once)

So hopefully It wont happen again :)
