View Full Version : When Do Bubs Learn How To Get Back Down Safely?

My DD has just started pulling up & often tries to stand on her own without holding onto anything for support. She's even tried taking a few steps here & there.

I'm just worried about her falling. At the moment I try to be right beside her or behind her all the time because she's far more interested in standing than crawling now & will crawl straight over to the nearest object she can pull up on.

The only problem is that if she wants to get back down, she just freefalls straight back! I have to be right there to catch her, and even then she has had a few big crashes!

Unfortunately I have to go back to work in a couple of weeks so I won't be there all the time to sit beside her & catch her when she throws herself backwards!

How long after learning to pull up did everyone's bubs learn to sit or kneel back down safely?

It didn't take long - you can also help her by showing her what to do.
We were having big problems with DD when she learned to climb on the bed and the lounge - she would try to divebomb back onto the floor. We showed her how to get down backwards safely and it only took a few times, and she always does it now.
Even though your baby is younger I'm sure you could show her what to do.
Good luck :)

Hey there

It doesnt take long. I think with dd it was about 2 to 3 weeks and she had learnt how to get down. She still has the occational fall backwards.

Thanks guys!

I think I may have found my answer today actually! She didn't attempt the backward free-fall at all today! Yay!! Even yesterday I think she may have only doen it once.

Today, every time she wanted to move or get back down after pulling herself up to standing, she managed to lower herself back down, either onto her knees or more often onto her bum.
