Hi all,
My daughter is 4 months old and a very fussy/slow feeder on the bottle. :hair:
She also suffers reflux, but not too badly.
I am on the hunt for a fabulous bottle to help improve and speed up her feeding if possible! (Yeah Right I hear you all say!)
Currently we have tried;
Avent - 0, 2, 3, and 6 MO teats
Nuk Anti - Colic bottles with Silicone teats 0-6 Months (Currently using) also have tried the rubber teats - they lasted about 5 minutes.
Tommy Tippee - The breast shaped/nature ones??? Borrowed a GF's and tried it once.
The thing is, DD always seems to like a new bottle initially and not fuss as much and drink faster, but then she does back to her old fussy/slow ways after a week or so! :hissy:
So, it may be a long shot, but does anyone have any bottle reccommendations that have helped their babes???

You can buy weaning cups for four-month-olds. I think they're by Avent or Tommee Tippee but not sure. Does she like to hold on herself while she's feeding? I saw some in Coles that they say help the transition. I'm not sure if you want to go there but it's worth a try I guess.
You could also try her on solids early if you think she's ready. Solids are our friend - changed our life!

Just a thought.. our son was very slow on the bottle and used to dribble quite alot.. had small bottles (60 ml) every 2 hours for first few months.. he's now 13 months and we've just found out that he has "low muscle tone" (some kids born with it) which means his mouth muscles tire very easily from the sucking action... Your little girl may not have this problem, but b4 now i'd never heard of it.. so thought i'd let you know its a possibility.
Btw, wen seeking advice about my sons bottle habits i was told its normal for them to take about 15 - 20 mins to drink a bottle how long does she take?:)

Amethyst - Thanks, will have to check out the pigeon bottles.
Chesby05 - I have just started DD on Rice Cereal this week and she is loving it. Thank goodness. I don't think she is ready for the sippy cup just yet. She sometimes holds on to her bottle, but rarely. Thanks for your advice.
Maelansmum28 - I was interested to read about your DS. I have never heard of 'low muscle tone'. Does it affect him much? My DD does tire easily on the bottle, will have to keep this in mind if it continues.
She takes between 20 to 45 minutes to finish a 200ml bottle. 20 minutes is super speedy for my little one!
Of course, after I have made this post, we are having a good week with DD and the Nuk anti-colic bottles, but I'm sure I will be :hair: again, by next week!
i second the recommendation for the pigeon bottles with the Y shaped variable flow teat.
Oh man, :hugs: I have been having the same problems with our DD she just either won't drink a whole bottle or mucks around for 1hr on it until she drinks it! And I have been hunting around trying all sorts of different bottles. I went to the doctor to find out why she might not be feeding and he said she probably has silent reflux and wanted to put her on meds.
But I have just recently on good recommendation from my friend who had a baby that wouldn't feed well either to try the el-cheapo Dymples brand bottles and teats you can buy them from Big W and they cost $3 for 2 bottles and you can get the teats in small, medium or flast flow. And since I have had her on them she has been drinking 120-150mls in about 20-30mins include winding and rest time. (Previously 80-100mls over 45mins to an hour, hard to burp and a major mission). She LOVES them. She has been easier to burp too!!
I don't know if it is they are narrow neck teats as I was previously using Avent and their teats are hard and big. And they are really soft teats also. I also find the air bubbles flow back into the bottle alot better also. So go figure, I have spent so much money on expensive Avent bottles and tried other wide neck teats also to no avail, (Pigeon and Pur) and she loves the cheap ones! The other good thing is that they fit the Tommee Tippee and other narrow neck bottles too so you can just interchange the teats, as since they are cheap bottles they do leak abit. But who cares if it's easier to feed them I rekon!
So I am not going to worry about reflux meds now as I don't want to medicate her if I don't have to. And let me tell you I have been researching all different types of formula, even tried Lactose Free formula, thought she may have a milk intolerance and everything, but no she is just a fussy little thing and wanted a different bottle. I guess it is all trial and error!

For Oliver we used the Tommee Tippee bottles (normal shapped ones) with Pur Orthodontic teats. He took to them really well and fed heaps better!
George uses the Tommee Tippee closer to nature ones, and has had no problems.
Both teats have anti collic valves in them. ;)
Hi Sarah
We changed from Avent to Green to Grow and Mam (normal style Mam bottle). Both work pretty well. Both are BPA free as well
