Hello everyone,
I am wondering if anyone knows anything about a bicornuate uterus? I have been told that my baby is in the right horn of my bicornuate uterus....but that is as much as they can tell me.
I have looked in scientific journals and obstetric textbooks but have found very little information about what it means for me & bub. If anyone knows more (e.g., does it mean I will have to have a C-section, be more likely to have a pre-term baby) can you please let me know?
Thank you so much for your help!!

Sorry I haven't got any knowledge of this condition but I read a story in a mag a few years ago of a woman with this same condition. I know she had her baby and all was well but I'm not sure if it was c-sect or not.
I probably haven't helped much at all, sorry.:o

What is a Bicornuate Uterus?
Oct 12 '00
Infertility is a difficult road many couples go through. There are many causes of infertility, of course. Too many to go through at once. There is one condition specifically I’d like to write a little about because it is part of my life. The condition is having a bicornuate uterus. Disclaimer: I am not in any way a medical professional. The information I present is based on research I have done to find out more about this condition. If you suspect you have an infertility problem, seek medical advice from your doctor for your best course of action.
What in the world is a bicornuate uterus you ask? It is a birth defect where the uterus does not form as it should. Instead of one whole uterus, there are usually two separate ‘horns’ that form the top of the uterus. If a fertilized egg implants in one of the horns, that pregnancy usually is not viable as the horns do have the normal uterine tissue to support a pregnancy, nor the space for a baby to grow. A bicornuate uterus can be associated with miscarriage, preterm delivery, fetal growth retardation, and an abnormal fetal presentation (breech or transverse), and sometimes various birth defects of the baby. A bicornuate uterus can be diagnosed by a combination of several techniques: ultrasound, MRI, HSG, hysteroscopy, or laparascopy.
Normally babies turn head down towards the end of pregnancy. However, with a bicornuate uterus, the baby may fit better with the head up so there's a higher incidence of breech positions. But the baby may also turn head down, it depends on the shape of the uterus and the baby's size. It's not true that every woman with a bicornuate uterus will carry a breech baby, and not every pregnancy a woman has will be breech. Pregnancies in women with a bicornuate uterus have a 55 -63% fetal survival rate with a 15 -25% rate of preterm delivery. If a woman is known to have a bicornuate uterus, her pregnancies will most likely be considered high-risk from what I’m told.
Many times a bicornuate uterus will go undetected until a woman delivers a baby. At If the doctor needs to examine the uterus after delivery, they may discover that it has an unusual shape. If a c-section is done the irregular shape of the uterus will probably be noticed.
For some good ultrasound and other pictures of a bicornuate uterus, visit http://matweb.hcuge.ch/matweb/Selected_images/uterus__congenital_anomalies.htm
hi mum of 12b.
i also have a bicornuate uterus.
i can only tell u what i have learnt from the information i can gather and from my own personal experiences.
i have had two misscariges due to the fetus attaching in a horn.
from the info i can gather,me and u alike, the fetus only have a 70% survival rate in pregnancy.
a c section is typical for people with this condition.as the baby cant turn around thereforr is usually breach.
my daughter was breach and 3.5 months prem i had her by emergeny c section.
premature birth is common because your uterus cant strech to compensate about 60% with this condition have premature birth.
as far as having a prem goes the statistis are pretty good.having a baby 35 wks and over has 96%survival rate.
a baby between 35 and 30 have a 95% chance of surviving.
a baby between 26 and 30 have a 90%chance of surviving
a baby between 23 and 26 have a 80%chance of surviving.
no child has survived younger than 23 weeks.
these statistics are based on what i have read.
also you may be prone to spot bleeding, but always be checked just incase.
have your kidneys and bowls check as most people with thic condition are also missing a kidney!i myself only have one.
as long as your educated and prepared there is no reason you cant enjoy pregnancy and child birth anyless(the months to follow can get a bit tough if you go prem).
only cause its tough when they are in hospital and you are not.
there is no reason why you cant have healthy pregnancy and baby(premmy is still conciderd healthy!!!!)
i wish you good luck.
you have an amazing experience ahead,if u go prem or not it still incredible.
i hope i have helped a little.

Hi
I have a bicornate uterus, i found this out when i went to the hosiptal after my waters broke. My beautiful daughter was born by emergancy c-section when she was 38.4wks, she was breech. She was little (5p 13o) but there was nothing else wrong with her. She is now 4 1/2 months now and she is catching up to the other babies in our mothers group.
Around the same time my daughter was born i had 3 other friends have babies and my child was the only one not to go into the specical care nursery. So i possiable to have a healthy baby with a bicornuate uterus.
I wish all the mums and the mums to-be all the luck in the world with rasing your children. :flowerz:
sorry i found an error in my post...my daughter was 2.5 months premmie not 3.5.lol.how embaressing!!!

Hey there. I have a bicornuate uterus. The biggest issue really is breech. The horns can stop the baby turning. Apparently they walk up the walls of the uterus and flip over and the horns stop that. With both my kids, I could feel them trying to turn for months to no avail. :crying: Both my kids were breech and I got stuck with 2 c/s. An ECV (where they manually turn the baby) cannot be done with this uterine abnormality, as it can be supposedly dangerous.
As for pre term, both mine went full term. An old friend also has one, and had 2 kids full term as well. However, both hers were posterior births, so clearly a bi uterus can mean poor positioning for birth.
that is amazing that both you and your friend managed to go full term!!!i have never personally met anyone (till now)that had managed to go full term.but everyone i have met is also just gratefull to have a baby.so thankyou for sharing that sometimes stories like your make all the difference!!!

I find it interesting about lower birth weight. Both my kids were 6"1 (DD was 39+3 and DS was 38+1, I didn't go into labour with either so who knows how long I would of gone) and my friends kids were about the same weight. I suspected it causes lower weight, but all us 4 parents to these kids aren't big people. Both mine were born with apgars of 9 and 10, and the midwives said with both they were small but really strong.
that is fantastic!like i said i have never heard of some one having full term bub.and u were induced?you and your friend might just be lucky enough to have larger uterus.i know on all my scans the doc has said that even if i didnt have a bicornuate uterus i still could'nt go full term.as it is so small.so maybe that is what most girls have and you were the lucky two?i'm not entirely sure about that.

No, due to the breech pres I just had the 2 c/s. My friend went into labour herself, and despite the terrible pain of posterior births they were completely normal.

I do also
I didnt know until i was in labor with DS2
DS1 was born at 35wks He was breech and 1705gms (also had PE)
DS2 was born at 32wks he was head down but he was 2133gms
Both where Emergency C-Section DS1 i went in labor which stopped them my water broke
DS2 I went into labor was trying for a VBAC but he went into distress so they needed to get him out
once again an amazing story!i do love hearing everyones stories.and i also love the comment about bicarbonate uterus!
You've overcome the first hurdle, and gotten pregnant in the first place :D. It really depends on the severity of the 'wall' between the horns etc.
I have one too, and DD was breech, was going along to full term by the looks of things, when she was a c sec at 38.5 weeks.. She was unable to get out of breech because of having no room. She was also visibly on one side of my body during pregnancy.
I was worried the whole time about prem, I know I was lucky to get her as far as I did. The biggest issue for me in the end was the breech requiring c sec.
Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy

She was also visibly on one side of my body during pregnancy.
 I had that with mine too. Both lay on my right hand side, maybe the right side had more room. It looked so weird though, my left side was almost flat and my right was huge.
If the horns are too bad then the rule is that it is probly septate uterus not bicornuate.Has anyone been properly diagnosed by MRI? And not but ultrasound? Most of the people I used to talk to found out they had septate. It seems to be slightly more common. The fantastic thing about septate is most the time you can have corrective surgery. All of the ppl i talked too had never made it past 14weeks and took an average of 1year to fall pregnant but after the surgery all were pregnant within 3 months and all are now expecting little bundles! So if you havent been diagnosed properly it is definetly worth a shot!
Delirium;Did you find that people ask you alot why your belly looked so unsuall or did u find that people polightly ignored the fact that you were lopsided?
Breech does seem to be the most commmon trademark(after repeted mc's)and if breech is the worst thing that could happen i am sure you would have been thanking your lucky stars!

I know you asked Delirium :D, but I'll answer too - yes people did ask, mostly friends at work, they were fascinated.

Yeah, people often commented. Sometimes it wasn't obvious to others and she'd lie with her left hip on my back, but she would also turn face to back and her back would stick out. It looked like Alien
I had a traumatic birth with my first c/s and a great birth with my 2nd c/s. I have always wanted a vb but you are right, I'm just lucky to have healthy babies. Reading about the m/c here makes makes me feel very lucky.
Has anyone been properly diagnosed by MRI?
No, a Gyno diagnosed me by u/s. When I went for my dating scan with my first, the sonogrpaher commented that I had a bicornuate uterus, but by the 20 week scan they said it had stretched and could hardly be seen. Apparently my septum was quite low, so it was bad.

i have a slightly bicornuate uterus. aparrantly the severness can vary, mine is more a heartshape. i thas not affected my fertility at all even tho a dr told me at 16 that i would never have kids because of it ( lol @ him i fell preggers 2 mths later) i have carried 4 babys to term and they have all been posterior, yes i know bout the lobsided tummys  my streachies r heaps worse on my left side and every one commented ( :( hubby thinks its funny). also it can be linked to a gene that causes kidney/ bladder abnormaltys.
I was diagnosed with a bicornuate uterus at the age of 13. I had no trouble getting pregnant with either pregnancy. The only complication was with both pregnancies was that the babies were breech. The bicornuate uterus does not have as much room to stretch nor hold as much fluid. The low fluid level prevented the doc from manually turning the baby. *I was so jealous of the natural birth moms who were up walking around the same day they had their baby, I was determined to go natural with the second, but it just didn't work out. The result was two scheduled C-sections. Both were scheduled two weeks early because the doc didn't want me to go into labor. (So I have two children but NEVER experienced labor...that I don't regret :)
Babies were 6lb 13 oz and 7lb 11oz. 1st daughter was in the right horn, 2nd daughter was in the left horn.
We have twins on each side of our families, so we joked that "what if i got pregnant in the other side WHILE I was pregnant already....with twins in both.....we could have a litter !! I know it doesn't work that way but at 18 it made us worry. :)
Congratulations to both for your healthy babies!
It isnt so much of a gene that also affects your kidneys and liver....Your liver, kidneys and uterus all form at the same time in utero. So when there is and abnomality such as ours there is also a risk of abnormality with other organs made at the same time.Usually it is simple as only having one kidney(which is what i have).Uterus abnomalities also tend to be past down mother to daughter.(but not always!)
My daughter was ultrasound when she was 3 weeks old(in special care)and she also has a bicornuate uterus.Just hope she doesnt have as many troubles with pregnancy as her mother!
I too have only one kidney. Didn't know it until my 2nd pregnancy. Doc mentioned that we should check them since it was common with bicornuate uterus. I'm 37 now and no complications. I just pay close attention to UTI's and get them treated right away.
Askees; You must have an amazing and considerate doctor to have suggested to have a scan! Most doctors just dont know enough about uterus abnomalities to suggest any form of diagnostics for relative problems. That is wonderful that you are yet to have problems!
Be safe

i had a m/c in november last year after ttc for 9 months... when i didnt concieve again after 6 mnths i went backt o my dr and asked to see a specialist first of all my gp wanted to check me for PCOS which i dotn have btu she did say it looked like i had a bicornuate uterus.. so i went to the speciliast and she said that it wasnt acurate and i needed to loose some weight so they could do the operation.. that was at the end of june this year.. i found out at the end of july i was pregnant.. so now i have no idea if i have a bicornate uterus or how server or not it is.. im 11w2d pregnant atm...
congatulations on your pregnancy!and i am sorry about your mc.Im presuming the found your bicornuate uterus by ultrasound?if so what surgery are they planning to do?If they are planning correctional surgery then you would have to have a septate uterus as bicornuate uterus are inoperatable.if a bicornuate uterus is too sever it i becomes a septate uterus which like i said is correctable. If it is exploritory surgery i personally would alow it as mri and scans are more that accurate at picking up the difference now.goodluck with your pregnancy!

thanku and yes they did find it by ultrasound.. the dr nor the specialist could see whether it was bicornuate or septate... im not sure of the procedure as she told me to loose the weight before she would go any further. but something about putting blue dye in and seeing what the results were.. so im still no closer to finding out at the moment...
My young aunt (she was only just a little older than me) has a bicornate uterus. She was unable to fall pregnant for many years then carried her first surprise baby to full term (c/s around 7 pound). Her second baby was born by c/s at 34 weeks due to placenta praevia and a series of big bleeds. She recently had to have a full hysterectomy due to severe bleeding but I am unsure whether this is related to the shape of her uterus or not.
Sorry I don't know any more details :o
i did actually write a post yesterday that obviously isnt here so ill try again....
lealea79:i think the procedure you are talking about is called a hystercalpingogram.it is when the inject blue dye and see where it goes and where it cant.i have found it is usually used to diagnosed blocked falopian tubes.i dont understand why you need to lose weight for this procedure as i am not the smallest woman on the block and had no problems with it.plus they usually use x ray to store images.the only way i can see a problem is if they chose to use ultrasound.lol i am sorry if i seem to be prying!goodluck
alisonp:it is not uncommon for both sides or horns of the uterus to shed there lining at differtent times and it also does cause heavier bleeds as there is alot more surface area hence more lining.placenta preavia is also more likely but maybe in your sisters case unrelated like the bleeding.just like people every uterus is different!lol

oh no i dont think of it as prying :)... i guess its just waiting now and seeing what is going to happen... i have had 3 scans for this pregnancy and noone has said anything about the uterus so im still at a loss as to whether i have it or not...
lealea;if the doctors first told you that you have a bicornuate uterus than you should follow his advice.Im not sure if u have mentioned this but how far along were you when they found it?As your baby gets bigger the horn that is not in use gets pushed out the way and is imposible to find during scans.so dont stress if you dont hear any news about it till after you recieve your bundle of joy!As well as bleeding as you can shed the lining on one side of your uterus while being pregnant on the other.thats what happened with my daughter and why i dint know i was pregnant till i was 5.5months!Even though you b/u hasnt been confirmed make sure they add it to your notes as precaution and always tell someone at the hospital as it makes a huge difference to the way you will be treated when you go into labour.eg.they will need to scan u to make sure your not breech ect.thankyou for saying im not prying i find you exceptionally interesting!good luck i hope all is well

Thanku Paige that made me smile saying i was interesting :) i'll tell u my story..
I had a m/c in november last year i was 5.5 weeks along. and everyone i spoke to said it wont take long before i fall again. after 6 months of not falling dp n i went to see the dr as i wanted a referal to see a specialist. i went for a scan as the gp wanted to check for PCOS. the pcos come back that i didnt have that. but gave a very unclear letter of saying that i had the b/u or a s/u. my gp couldnt work out which one it was either from the letter or the u/s. i seen the specialist in late june n she too basically said the same thing although it did look like a b/u. she said that i would need the dye n a ultrasound to check for endermetrious (not sure how to spell that). but said i need to loose some weight as i am overweight. and i think that i had to go under antisetic (not sure how to spell that either). so she said to come back in 2 months time n she would review it. so i walked away crying thinking that i wasnt ever going to fall pregnant or from what i had read be able to carry a baby. n also wondering how i was going to loose the weight. so i gave up trying for a baby. i didnt care when i o'd for the month of july. but by chance on the 30th of july i thought i would just do one last preg test as i had one left from 10 i had had. n nearly fell off the toilet when it come up positive. n i am today 14 weeks pregnant. but at the scans i have had no one has said anything about the b/u n find it intersting when i do meantion that i have been told that i was meant to have one. i see the obstitrian (sorry another misspelt word :)) later this month, so it will b intersting to see what they say about it. but i do worry about the baby being breech.so that is why im not sure what is happening inside my body :).
sorry for the long post.......

14-10-2008, 17:40
my turn too pry now.. how old were u when u were told about your b/u? and will you be having anymore babies??
Lea;You do not need to apoligise for your post!the longer the better!
I am sorry about your m/c,it must have been incredibly hard reaching that milestone with this pregnancy. But (as i am sure everyone has told you)you are past the worst of it and it should all get easier from here on in.Not that i am an expert on pregnancy or even made it to full term so dont take my word for it!
Your six months of trying must have also been extremly difficult. But i know alot of women who have been trying for years and they say that the trials of conception are needed to prepare you for pregnancy.pregnancy is the trial for childbirth and childbirth a trail of the rest of your life.by having a b/u or s/u u will need more alot more trials!
That is fantastic that you do not have PCOS.It makes things alot more complex.and does tend to effect a higher persentiage of women with b/u or s/u.I am also amazed that your doctor was considerate enough to send you to a specialist! My doctor wanted me to suffer through another m/c (taking me to 3)before he would consider doing anything. In the end i was so persistant he refused to see me anymore and palmed me off to another doctor in the surgery who is fantastic. And saw a specialist within the week.
I am assuming there is a specific reason why they insist on doing your dye test by u/s and anesthetic. As i have already said it seems a little unorthadox. But at least you have a little bundle of joy to look forward to in the mean time!
When you explained about how you discovered you were pregnant i had a perfectly clear image. It must have been the most wonderfull feeling especially after your rollercoster ride at the specialist. And you did the test to humor yourself?you had no idea? How did you feel? What was your first thought? How did your partner react?
Like i said dont stress if you dont here anything about your b/u / s/u while pregnant.Your techitian will be wore worried about you baby as im sure you are.If your baby does end up breach you should have plenty of warning.Your doctor will check at ever visit and it wouldnt hurt to make appointments more reguarly than suggested, your doctor wont mind. And if you dont end up full term(knock on wood) it wont matter all that much which way your baby is.
I was 16 when i found out i had a b/u.No one explained it to me or took the time to clear up my thoughts wich (if you can't tell) started an obsession they also found a mass on my uterus wall. And i am still no wiser to what that was(as i dont have it anymore) My husband and i have been trying for 93weeks give or take as we started trying almost imediately after having dd knowing it would be a long time and wanting to take advantage of pregnancy hormones(if i had ended up pregnant that soon i would have fallen off the toilet seat too). And so here i am still ttc, still researching, and still going strong.
Good luck and stay safe!

Hi everyone,
I'm fairly new to this forum and so excited to find so many of you with a bicornuate uterus! During my first pregnancy I felt like I was the only one in the world and couldn't get any information on it.
I have a complete B/U with all 3 of my pregnancies being in the right side. I too was a bit lopsided with #1 and my back had a bit of drama= due to the weight all on my right side!
At about 30 weeks I knew something was going on and after being examined was found to be fully effaced (thinned) I hung on till exactly 34 weeks when I went into spontaneous labour. I arrived at the hospital already 6cm dilated and was rushed in for a c-sec.
He was breech from about 25-26 weeks and I just gave in to the fact that I was always going to have a c-sec. I'd really like to explore my options this time around and see if I can use some natural methods to turn bub.
He was born @ 2kg and was a champion feeder so we all went home after only a week!
I got pregnant VERY easily with Noah, but it took 12 months to conceive Matilda and then another 12 months to conceive #3. I believe a b/u makes it a littel ahrder to get pregnant due to things going up different sides and not meeting!
Anyway, still only 10 weeks and all looks good so far, still so very very nervous about a m/c though. I know the rate is so high for us (my grandmother had 4 and I think she had a b/c)
Good luck to everyone sharing this scary road

beachmum;welcome!glad to meet another b/u trooper with an amazing story!Congratulations on your pregancy and children! That is amazing that your son was home after one week and was such a fighter!you must be so proud.i think the rate of misscariage realy does depend on each person.i know women that can fall pregnant every other month...they just dont seem to stay that way.where as others cant get pregnant but when they do seem to end up with a take home baby.i for one used to fall pregnant easy but mc alot.where as with my daughter we had to try.now once again playing the ttc game.but most i talk to are either on or the other.Your risk of mc now would be pretty low as your uterus is already streched and you know that side of your uterus 'works'.i wish you all the luck in the world.keep us posted!
Hi, I to have a b/u and with my first bub went full term, she was breech and i hade to have e/c. my 2nd was also footling breech so another c/section. my 3rd was head down ready to go but he was alot smaller bub then the first two so had more room to move in my right uteri, so c/section for him and im 5and half months pregnant with my 4th and he is in the right uteri and it will be c/section for him.....i have found out that most the bubs are breech with b/u and to carry bub full term, well dosent happen much due to c/section and the fact these amazing little humans know there is no room...lol I only found out about my 2 uteri last year and it answered alot of why!why! why!
Goodluck!
is anyone else having problems posting???it might just be me.jo jo that is amazing that you have excepted c-sections as a part of your birth process!it must have been very hard before you knew what was causing all your problems!congatulations on your pregnancy and i wish you well!

hey paige, how are you? well im now 20 weeks along and went for my ultrasound and found out we are having a boy yay.. but that havent said anything about the bicornuate uterus when i had the ultrasound. the hospital said i cant do share care with my gp just in case i do have one.. do u know if the ultrasound should have picked up if i do have one? i do have a low laying placenta and the baby is in a breech position which people keep telling me is normal...
hope all has been well with you
Jojo: Congratulations on your little boy! Your daughter will be feeling a little out-numbered by now! 3 boys and a girl! Wow!
The hospital is right to suggest not to do shared care ,they are keeping on the safe side. An ultrasound at 20 weeks wont pick up a bicornuate uterus as your precious son is taking up all the room and is litterally squashing your septate! So you would be very lucky if someone had mentioned it. How were you diagnosed with a bicornuate uterus? Were you pregnant at the time? All these things affect how accurate your diagnosis is. But i have never met a woman who was misdiagnosed so you can almost garantee that you do!
A low lying placenta at this stage is quite normal just make sure it is in your notes and insist it is followed up otherwise you might be at risk of placenta previa or something worst. They should keep a close eye on your placenta anyway as with a bicornuate uterus there is a higher risk of the placenta coming away from the uterus (Placental Abruption) later in pregnancy. There is also a higher risk if you have scare tissue from previous surgery and higher risk of Uterine Rupture.
Almost all babies are breech at this stage but your little one will be running out of room sooner than others so he has a higher chance of staying that way. If you are expecting a c-section have your doctors planned a date yet? Just curious!
I hope everything continues to go well for you!
I found out about my 2 uteri after an internal ultra sound before getting pregnant, due to my age and history, my GP wanted me to get the all clear......and thats when it all come out! I am booked in for C/S on the 2/3/09 and have been having lots of test since around 25 weeks, bub is fine and is head down like the last fella it,s mum that is breaking down...lol they have told me no more babies after this one due to uteri scaring and are keeping a close eye on me!

HI B/U mummies.
Can we do a little poll on who actually went full term/early, c-sec/vaginal, breech.
It would be interesting to see what is more common for us.
I am currently 21 weeks along and everything is going really well.
I am still set on a VBAC and will be doing everything I can to turn this baby!
I'll start!
Beach mum - #1: 6 weeks early PROM, breech, c-sec
ok sounds good!
1st child was full term and footling breech had to have emergency C/S.
2nd child was footling breech so booked in for C/S.
3rd child was the head down right position to go wanted VBAC but had no support to do so and was told no:no:
4th child wanted to have VBAC but later found out about 2 uteri and how bad the tissue scaring was in my right uteri that i had carried the kids in and finally come to terms with the fact that C/S was the way i had to have my kids safely and for my health as well.
I felt very humbled in fact when i looked at the disc of my 2 uteri to a normal uteri and how much smaller it was in size and the odd shape, i thought you amazing part of my body that you carried my babies the best you could! thats when i finally accepted my C/S and how special us ladies are!

all 4 of mine were posterier VB 2 with pethadine and 2 without pain relief. 3 were 3 days late and one was induced early due to suspected IUGR ( was wrong, she was born weighing 3.29kg). im now expecting no 5 :smiliedance:.
#5 on the way, you go girl and VB, well done.
Funny thing when i had my first she was overdue by a week and was in such a split position with her feet, when they brought her to me she had 3 stiches on her left big toe, yep she had it pushed so high up and against the uteri wall and so little room they cut it when they cut my uteri.....lol i will never forget the 3 little stiches.

Hi, I have just joined this site/forum and find it interesting that there are so many women with B/U.
I was diagnosed with mine in 2001, when I was going through my second MC. I have not yet had the testing to see how severe it is, or if it is S/U.
I am also very pleased to see so many women with this condition that have had children, it gives me hope that one day I might have at least one.
I have, to date, lost 5.
After losing the 5th one I gave up, my doctor wanted to send me for tests but I put them off, I just gave up on everything and have been telling people that I don't want kids anyway, which isn't really the case.
I am now between 4 and 6 weeks along and I have an appointment with the doctor in 2 days time, I will be insisting on an U/S to find out how far along I am, and to see if everything is going as it should be.
I know for sure that MC 1 & 5 were blighted ovum, and MC 4 was lost at 10 weeks (after 2 weeks of struggling to keep it and after hearing a heartbeat it was so hard to lose that one). I am unsure on the other 2 as I wasn't told.
I have decided that if I do lose this one then I am definately getting the testing done, I am 31 now and I know that I am running out of time to have children.
I just want to thank everyone for sharing their stories and wish everyone the best of luck.
I don't know if anyone is reading this still, but I thought I would update.
I got an ultrasound today, it showed that I am 5 and a half weeks along and we found a heartbeat, as well as a baby.
I don't want to get my hopes too high, I've had a heartbeat before. But for now I am hopeful
congratulations on your pregnancy :)
Looks like I'm not going to be a Mum this time either. I went for my 4th ultrasound (in 3 weeks) and was told that the sac is too far to the right, almost in the tube, and is getting smaller. So no baby this time. Thanks to anyone who read my posts. And thanks to Nurse27 for replying. Maybe next time I might not be so unlucky. Though I am having trouble believing that I am ever going to be a mum.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes etc. I am devastated by the loss, and to make things worse this is the 3rd blighted ovum as well. I have an appointment with my gyny in a weeks time and hopefully he will put me through some tests to see why this keep on happening.
Thanks again to everyone. Best of luck to all.

Hi, I am now 34 weeks. I was diagnosed with a biocornuate Uterus with right horn at 12 weeks. On the 20 week scan I asked if they could see the septum and the sonographer said she couldn't see one. My baby is breech and has been since 24weeks. I have done acupressure, moxibustion and positions but baby stuck in right side. I spoke with my midwife who said that this is because babys head is probably stuck in right horn. My next appointment I will probably have another scan to determine if I will be viable for ECV. My baby is measuring 2cm larger which I am happy about because I hear that these babys are usually smaller. Depending on the lie of my breech eg footling, frank I will decide to either opt or VD or el c/s. I hear that there is an increased risk of miscarriage with Bicornuate uterus, will this not increase the risk with the scaring of c.s Has anyone tried or a vaginal delivery with a bicornuate uterus? I am aware there is a risk of PPH but is anyone aware of other risks. My obs is very experienced with breech and I have also done alot of reading on the subject, there doesn't seem to be much on the risk of a bicornuate uterus though.
I know a woman who had a bicornate uterus she has had 3 vaginal births they were all premature at around 34-35 weeks and the last one a breech vaginal birth.

My best friend has the condition, she had 4 miscarriages before giving birth to her little girl earlier this year by emergency c-section. She was booked in to be induced but went into labour a week or so early, bubs was breech too.
VB's are possible breech but its just rarely done, they'd rather book you in for a c-section.
I have just been diagnosed with a bicornuate uterus, this is my 3rd pregnancy, I had an overdue bub 6 years ago via emergency c-sect due to deep transverse position, I had a miscarriage in 08 and I am now 18 weeks preg and have only just been told!
update, Lewis Mitchell born 20/11 by c/s. I had decided that I would deliver my frank breech vaginally. I went into labour water broke was examined and 3cm but footling breech. Off to theatre I went. Lewis got stuck in the right horn they tried all the manouvers but he wasn't coming and was going floppy so they had to then do another vertical incision to get him out. He was apgars 4@1min & 9 @ 5mins. I also had 800ml PPh. Mum and baby thriving 3 months on.

hello everyone
i have a b/u aswell.
it is so amazing to hear everyones stories :)
i had no idea it was such a common problem among women.
I have previously had 1 succesful pregnancy, and all went well.
I fell pregnant straight away with no problems.
My son was born at 39 weeks, via normal vaginal delivery with no complications during the birth.
I did have a massive bleed out after he was born, and had to have a cathada in for 2 days, but besides that everything was fine with baby.
He was a healthy 7 lbs 15 oz's, however had to go into phototherapy for 2 days afterwards as a result of bad jaundice.
I am now pregnant again (2 &1/2 years later)
this time it took me a few months to fall pregnant (however this could have been due to me having an implanon implanted previously)
This time round baby is in the left horn and doctors are keeping a close eye on me.
I have made it to 31 weeks so far, but have no idea if i am going to go premi or not.
They are also worried about me bleeding out afterwards again.
am a bit freaked out by the idea of having to have a possible csection or having a breach baby as my first son was all normal.
I am so amazed at the fact that i had a normal pregnancy the first time with no worries from doctors, but this time round they are quite concerned.
I was wondering if anyone had surgery to correct for this? My doctor has said it's not necessary.
Hi I have a b/u . I was told through my pregnancy I was too small not measuring to my dates, and had a breach baby, I was booked in for c/s 1week before due date. When having c/s that's when I got told Of this b/u babys head was stuck in left horn, but all healthy a squished head but was normal shape within 3 hours u could see it changing as miniutes went on, i was told i was very lucky to be able to get pregnant straight way and carry baby, baby is healthy. So I went straight back and tried again pregnancy 2 all good c/s 3 wks before due date cause breach. Trying now for the third but first had m/c this but was in right horn, my others were in left, I had a bleed/clot in left, the u/s could only give maybe two pregnancies and first m/c cause that bleed in left horn other had heart beat till 8 wks then m/c. This is why I am joining and so interested now.
