Can anyone tell me anything good about the Logan hospital. I am going to have a baby next year and may not be in the zone for the Gold Coast Hospital so Logan may be for me.
Do they have a birth centre, what is the the birthing suite like?
Any info is appreciated as I have never had a baby in QLD and dont know where to go as I do not have private health.
Thank you
Kelly
Logan do not have a birthing centre, if you can possibly get into Gold Coast I'd really try to do that, as they have a midwifery led program at least, Logan is your pretty run of the mill public hospital.
You can always go homebirth :)

I gave birth at Logan Hospital and I couldn't say one bad thing about it, although people were telling me for months to try and change to any other hospital and telling me bad stories about it.
It was very good and the staff were very supportive and friendly. They let me stay a few extra days because I wasnt 100% confident with my breastfeeding. They let me follow my birth plan as much as I wanted and they let me make the decisions in my labour.
I had a really great experience at Logan Hospital.
I agree with the above post. They do not have a birthing centre however I had my DS there and I can not say one negative thing about them - They were absolutely excellent in all aspects. Very positive experience! If you have any questions, I'll happily answer! :)
I had my daughter at the Logan hospital, and I can't say much good about their maternity and birthing staff (nurses or doctors). The student doctor however was lovely. She'd be the only positive thing I could thing of. It was a terrible birth, with horrendously rude staff, and I personally wouldn't go back there...
But... That was 3 and a half years ago. Things could be much better now. Around the time I had my dd, you'd be hard pressed to find someone that said something good about the Logan hospital. It is however very possible that things are completely different now.
Perhaps see if you can go for a tour, speak to the staff there, and see how you feel about it? :)

I supported a birth there recently - and it was the first and only one I've ever done there - but it wasn't a great place to birth.
They are flat out busy - and that tends to result in a bit of a "move em in, move em out" approach which isn't optimal. The mum I was there with had ruptured membranes and they couldn't get her on the drip quick enough. The postnatal ward was noisy and crowded and while the care was fine, again not optimal. The birth suites are absolutely pokey - no room to walk around, at all, you can do laps around the end of your bed and that's about it. I was shocked at how small they are compared to the birthing suites in other hospitals.
Can you get into the Mater? Much better there.

Was thinking about going to Mater if i cannot get into Gold Coast. Thanks for the comments! Kelly
I think it is luck of the draw really. I had a midwife with me the whole time I had my DS at Logan, they were not run off their feet, they had time for me and me only... Maybe I was one of the lucky ones! I think it depends what day you go into labour in all honesty!
But in saying that I had two different friends who had babies at a similar time to me - One at the Mater and one at RBWH and even they will tell you that the care I recieved at Logan Hospital was so much better than what they recieved.
Good luck either way :fingerscrossed:
 It completely depends on the day.. The week I had my dd at the logan, they were so busy that I got shoved out the door, even though I couldn't get out of bed or walk to the loo properly. Other days, people say the care is great :)

You hear good and bad about all hospitals. I've never been to Logan, but I have two friends who have. One loved the place, another hated it passionately.
My dad was there for a while (ok, not in the maternity ward obviously!) and in the section he was the nurses/doctors were great.

I had my DS there this year, and it was a lovely experience. They helped me achieve in everyway the Birth I wanted and My Midwifes were both great! It was very busy when I was in there, My midwife did drift in and out of my room, but as soon as I need him, he came straight away.
They were a little pushy on getting me out, as they were that busy, but I didnt mind.
My Friend had her baby there a few months ago though, and Hated it, She had a more complicated birth and got 3rd degree tearing, so this contributed to her hating it so much too lol

you may not be able to get into the mater...
i'm pretty sure that since the new mater mothers opened, they have restricted their catchment area...
I had my boy at the Mater 2 years ago and I wouldn't be able to get in now... I haven't moved and am still on the southside, about 30mins away from the mater...

Yep! As far as I know you have to live fairly close to the Mater. I'm also on the South side and I was out of the catchment area.

I had my daughter at the Logan Hospital & didn't really mind it. I don't have anything to compare it to though.
I actually had the exact same midwives in the birthing suite as my sister did 4 months earlier. I thought the birthing suites were nice & cosy & the shower was great. If my birth hadn't required an emergency c-section I think I would have been pretty happy with the whole experience. The c-section went fine & everyone was nice.
I had the opposite problem than everyone else in that I wanted to go home but they kept me in for 5 days & I was there the whole day before my bub was born too! I was kinda depressed about that 'cause I heard of people being ushered out after a day or two & I hoped I'd be one of them. It was good though in hindsight even though I felt like I had the "old" baby on the last day! hahaha
The midwives were all lovely & helpful & one even made me the best milo! hahaha. I won't lie tho throughout pregnancy check-ups I had one midwife who I didn't really like - she didn't help me up when I was on the table (trivial I know) - & the midwife on the last night I was there I didn't like as we sorta clashed a bit but hey there are always gonna be people you don't like. Overall it was a great experience tho!
